% I agree. The more vocal ones, in RAS,  are much less tolerant
% of any sim except GPL. That's a shame and sends a message to
% game developers, of 'why bother'.

It has nothing to do with GPL (for me).  I judge a sim on what I know
and like about past ones and then look for ones that give me more of
what I want (keyword is simulation).  Indianapolis 500 the Simulation
was the first real racing simulation.  Since then there has been far and
few contenders to that "bar" set by Papyrus group.  For me F1 2000
doesn't move me at all.  Not much improved physics wise over F1RS.  I
actually think the graphics and sound are worse (but then it's been
awhile since I have fired up F1RS).  The message I am sending to game
developers is "don't bother dishing out trash or re-hashed sims/games
without raising the bar).  For me N3 didn't make the grade for the same
weakness (re-hashed N2 with window dressing).  F1 2000 doesn't offer
me anything other than "current" season status.

I got the retail today and I like it,  I've played enougth really bad
F1 games to know a good one when I play it (F1 99, OF1R, Power F1,
Grand Prix Unlimited,F1 97).  It has taken some tweaking to get
running right but I enjoy it. The driving model feels good, the
impression of speed is spot on.  The car models are the best I have
seen in an F1 game.  I can live with the AI (and hope it is improved).

All in all the goods in this game far outweigh the bad

Ps.  I nice touch, has any body noticed the grandstands

Friday Practice = Nearly Empty
Qualifying = Half Full
Race  = Packed

A nice touch and atmosphere building

I agree for a 100% with you.
Main reason of playing games is having fun.
And I'm having a lot of it with F1-2000

Well, i'm running it on a PIII600, 128mb RAM, 32mb Nvidia TNT2 and have to
say that I am very unimpressed at the moment by how sluggish it can be. I
have got rid of the mirrors and this does make a difference but I certainly
didn't expect to have to do this on what is after all not exactly a sluggish
system. I also have the transparent tires problem and I am wondering if this
may also be partly causing the slow frame rates as much more of the track
has to be drawn.. is that possible??? It also makes it much harder to
drive...

I have just finished a couple of quick races and it has grown on me so I
will reserve my final judgement until the tires problem has been resolved
(hopefully).

Cheers

This is the absolute tops, Frank! *YOU* decide to take your ball(s) and
go home, and it's somebody else's fault? Mais non, mon frere --
everybody's responsible for their own actions in THIS life, sonny.
Nobody won, 'cause nobody was playing -- except you, with your childish
"king shit of turd mountain" nonsense. Grab yourself a hunk of maturity
and come back when you can act like a man.

It's an excellent point, but the problem isn't between Menard on the one
hand, and rrevved and me (and MANY others over the years) on the other
-- the problem is that Menard finds himself (again, and again, and
again) in the Emperor's Clothes, and he really hates it when people
point out (as they have again, and again, and again, for more than 5
years), that he's talking through his non-existent hat, not to mention
standing there with his bare arse in the breeze. As many over the years
have tried to point out, he claims to know things that he simply does
not, and when challenged, pouts off with his little bag of goodies, with
the threat to not let anyone play with them ever again. His so-called
"standing" in the sim community is almost entirely due to his own
tireless self-promotion and blowing of his own horn. Has he done "good"
things? Sure. Is he a constant ***wit? Pretty much. Is that a "bad" thing?

Well, in a cosmic sense, who cares? But in a practical sense, he's a
constant source of misinformation and misleading personal opinion
delivered as fact. I suppose no one can force maturity (or any other
desirable quality) on another, but Frank's unending "Look at how
fabulous I am!" and concomitant "NOW you'll all be sorry!" simply
invites the juicy raspberry from all right-thinking souls. Ultimately,
he couldn't stay away from this medium if he was run over by a freight
train -- it's his entire existence, as far as anyone can tell. That, in
itself, is sad, and maybe I'm just a common UseNet
bully/troll/flamer/azzhole/whatever, but the bottom line is "as ye sow,
so shall ye reap", and Frank has sown enough bullshit to raise the
atmospheric methane level to toxic levels. Why do I care? Maybe I'm just
a***.

rec.autos.sport.f1.moderated offers some relief from the flames, but
unfortunately it is not as spontaneous.

Stephen, who also remembers a rather different USENET, circa 1994-1996

Again, if anybody thinks THIS place is nuts, wander on over for a lurk
at the UNmoderated "rec.autos.sport.f1" -- it's basically a side-room to
alt.flame these days.
