Im thinking about buying GPL but Im not too e***d about
driving Legend cars. Is it possible to have more modern cars? Maybe
as an add-on or the like?
TIA

Neither am I... but I've had over two years of intense racing pleasure out
of these cars I have no interest in :-)
GPL really isn't about '67 cars, it's about an unequalled (IMO) driving
experience on the PC. That's all that matters to me.

driving experience on the PC. That's all that matters to me.
Like you, ultimately it's the driving experience I'm looking for. I
went ahead and ordered it (still waiting for GP3).
Thanks for the info.

Why not? Let's go through some possible reasons:
1) You don't know the drivers. I doubt that one - Jim Clark, Graham
Hill, Dan Gurney, Chris Amon, John Surtees (boo!). Sounds good to me -
and in any case, there are ways to change the names.
2) The cars are too slow. Nope - they can top 200mph at some tracks,
and the *average* at Spa is over 150mph.
3) You don't like the sounds. This one is *really* unlikely - they're
wonderful - and in any case, you can change them.
4) They're hard to drive. Yes, they are. That's the whole point - this
is a simulation, not an arcade game. They take ages to learn - and
you'll probably never master them - but the feeling of achievement when
you get a good time is incredible.
5) The AI cars are too fast. You can change that with an addon.
6) There's no telemetry. You can get an addon for this, too.
7) The tracks are unfamiliar. Well, OK, but it's really worth learning
them - they're *far* better than modern F1 circuits. And yes, there are
addon tracks available.
8) It's badly supported by the makers. Well, yes - it sold badly,
mainly because of the absence of an AI strength slider and the steep
learning curve. But there are vast numbers of excellent unofficial
addons, most of them free. And your most valuable resource - this NG!
And so it goes on. If you need convincing of this sim's brilliance,
just read here a while. And, when (not if, when) you're hooked, have a
look here for a huge heap of addons:

In any case, it's on budget. And if you get it from EB, you can always
take it back (but you won't - you won't!).

I hope you find it. Just be prepared to struggle a bit :-)
Andrew McP... struggling for two years against the constraints of utter
mediocrity!
Very, very hard..so if you are'nt into learning how to drive, you will be
wasting your time. I'm way off the pace ..but everytime i fire it up , the
hook goes in deeper..
Been a ***y long time since a game has done that.

After procrastinating for a good while, I got this sim about three
months back, and although the AI and I are not yet "one," we're finally
finding a few ways to communicate.
The cars will challange you -- they were powerful, under-tired and
under chassied...
The tracks were just plain intimidating -- blind, off camber,
decreasing radius turns lurk everywhere, but when you get it right
(even if not for a whole lap) you'll have a hard time not running out
to tell the neighbors...
The only advice I have, is a piece of advice I read here... Find a
track and a car that you like (for me it's the Eagle and Spa), study
them like you were geting ready to take the Bar, and don't change
either of them until you can drive the course in your sleep; really. I
still can't beat Clark (maybe in another year, I'll be able to stay in
sight -- that would be refreshing), but I have learned how to spin the
car without bending it and still lap under 3:50... <G>
I liked all the N1, N2, N3 series, and I still spend an embarrassing
amnount of time trying to outwit Rusty and Mark, but GPL is the auto-
racing sim others will be easured against for years to come (other than
in sales, of course -- pity). I sure hope the N4 rumor about using the
GPL physics engine are true...

No
Yes - but looks as if I was wrong
No
Definitely No - I'm looking for the most realistic driving experience.
.....
I'm glad I posted my original message. Trying to get a real reaction
from people I guess I succeeded. Thanks to all who responded. I
judged the book by its cover (Like most people who havent given the
game a fair chance). Cannot wait to play it.

You're rating them with the benefit of 30+ years of development. Rate them
from what was in existence at the time.

Yes of course -- didn't mean to offend your sensitivities. They were,
of course, the top of the heap thirty years ago...
