F1RS DirectSound patch and AWE64 ISA

by Scott R. Lun » Mon, 08 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I have an AWE64 Value ISA card.  Is the F1RS sound patch worth
installing for me?  Or do I need to have one of the new PCI cards that
support A3D for it to do anything?  I downloaded the small patch already
but I'm not going to bother with it if it's useless for me.  Thanks in
advance.

It is only worth doing if your soundcard supports DirectSound3D.
I doubt the AWE64 does. I have a cheap Ensoniq AudioPCI which
rund the 3D sound patch quite well. If you can find it (also called
a Creative Labs SBPCI64) it is a worthwhile upgrade. My framerate
also increased, and you should notice a improvement over your
AWE64.
