Hi,

I've just started using GPL and have a couple of problems.

My machine is a Duron800, with a gigbyte motherboard, with 384mb
memory and an NVIDIA GEFORCE2 mx200.

I can't get the frame rate about 29.99%, even if i remove 90% of the
detail in setup, i've ensured that i've loaded the latest driver for
the graphics card with out success.

I also have a situataion where the car will not maintain a straight
line, on the screen it seems to "drift"/"slide" as though its on ice.

Has anybody had this before and found a resolution.

thanks......

Have you got vsync on?  It sounds like you have, and you have a
refresh rate of 60Hz / 90Hz /120Hz (i.e. a multiple of 30).

Disable Vsync and all should be OK!

This sounds like standard behavour!  The GPL-era cars had no wings,
and thus much less grip than a modern F1 car.  Unless you're very
talented, you'll need a fair few hours of practice to get the hang of
it.  Stick with it though - it *is* worth it!

I agree.  I've never been able to "master" GPL, but Allison Hines
has some setups for the Coventry that cause it to behave in a way I
can comprehend.

The URL I have for her is no longer valid.

i can't believe i haven't thought of this before.  i have a similar
problem.

in the past it has been said that having vsync off results in visual
artifacts and tearing.  is this no longer true or do the newer drivers
compensate for this automatically?

i have a geforce2mx now, but have been running with vsync on since my
voodoo days.

Regards all,

I've never noticed anything while actually *playing* a game.
Sometimes, while watching someone else play or a benchmark run I've
seen a little tearing - but when you're playing yourself you're
normally far too busy to notice - IMHO

I'm still using "ancient" (early 2000 vintage) drivers for my TNT2
that are fully compatible with its video in functions.

Try turning it off then :-)

Check your controller callibration, and the setting for 'linearity'.  And, you
may have to try a utility to get rid of the deadzone in your steering.  Those
are the main causes for the car 'wandering' down the straights.
Sorry, but I don't remember the links for the controller utility...
