the posts on this group I was a little concerned about how hard it would
be to play. I have had GP2 for a couple of years and can get down to the
quick times (or within a second ) of Westra, Lake etc,. I finally did my
upgrade (300a celeron,128mg,voodoo banshee) and went to Watkins Glen in
a trainer.
Graphics awesome, car control, not bad, not as difficult as I suspected.
A few laps to get the lay of the land and back to the pits. Change to
Advanced trainer, more power, hmmm this is getting interesting, the tail
wants to slide out a bit, a few laps, a few off road excursions, some
very interesting replays.
Back to the pits, Grand Prix car, leave the pits, donut, opps, power on,
another donut, ok, a little easier on the throttle, ease it throught the
gears, its a little nervous but I'm getting the feel for it. A few more
laps, a little quicker, not as many off road excursions, start thinking
that I can go quick. Think again stupid! Many off road excurions, this is
with the Lotus. I decide to try the coventry, everyone says thats
easier.
A few laps and decide to try a couple of quick ones. In the middle of my
first lap I am brought to a startling thought. This car handles the same
as my 220HP Toyota Celica Special Stage Rally car in 1978. It brought
back some memories I'll tell ya. Power slide through one cornor, dance
on the brakes and Pedals and Presto some quicker laps. Not down to Clark
yet but getting close. This game is all about car control.
I went to Mosport and tried a few laps. having driven it in the 70's I
was amazed at how closely it was to the real thing.
For fun I also tried the Ring, WOW, 1 lap at touring speed. That will be
some awesome race when I get to it.
The end of the first day with GPL left me breathless. I think in a
couple of weeks I'll give on-line a shot, hopefully I will have gotten a
little quicker and more consistent by then.
