N2 Setups...Where do I start?

by Mike Thrashe » Tue, 30 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Hello,

I've been racing with Nascar 2 for about 3 months.  I'm lost when it
comes to setiing up the car.

I usually just take one of the pre-set setups but I know it can be
better.

It seems when I touch anything in the setup my car becomes
uncontrollable.  I tweak things, but I can't tell if it worked or not.

When you start with a setup, where do you start?

How can you tell if you need to adjust the wheels, wedge, or shocks?

hoping to get faster,
--Mike

Try looking at one of the set-up/ track guide sites. They will give you
a good idea of how everything works in conjunction w/ everything else.
Also don't try to make a bunch of changes at once or you'll never know
what effect each change has.

Here's a couple of sites to get you started!

I'm not an expert by any means, but here's how I got some pretty good
setups at a few tracks.

First - everyone has a different driving style.  What works well for
me may not work for you.  You can get setups from www.theuspits.com to
try, but it's probably better to do your own.

Second - change only ONE thing at a time.  Make small changes, one
step at a time, WRITE DOWN what you change, see what it does, then
change it more & see what happens.

If you make only one small change at a time and write down what you
changed, it's easy to see what happens.  This takes time, but you can
really learn a lot about car setups.  Keep trying and document your
changes.  Printing the settings is a nice feature:  you can write your
change on the setup sheet and have a good record of what you did.

Mike,

Take a look at my setup tutorial at:

  http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/Features/setupguide.html

There should be enough information there to get you started.
