N2 SOUND LOW IN DOS

by Franke » Sun, 23 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I made a boot disk for Nascar 2 to run in DOS and everything works great
except for one thing- the volume is very low and I can't increase/control
it with any of the controls in either Win95 or DOS. I went to Blaster's web
site and I saw a CTLOAD.COM which is supposed to load your cd-rom when you
re-start your computer in Win95 DOS mode. I don't use that path so I'm
wondering if it would be any use to me anyway. The sound works properly
under Win95 but the game locks up due to a mouse conflict and that's why I
made the boot disk. Should I add some lines to my boot disk--

>C:
>SET COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM
>PROMPT SIERRA BOOT DISK $_$P$G
>PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\SIERRA
>A:\gmouse.com
>rem - By Windows Setup - LH /L:1,40688 C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.E
>XE /S D:ASPICDO /M:12
>SET SOUND=C:\VIBRA16
>SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
>SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
>C:\VIBRA16\DIAGNOSE /S
>C:\VIBRA16\MIXERSET /P /Q

>DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
>DOS=HIGH,UMB
>FILES=30
>BUFFERS=20
>DEVICEHIGH /L:1,23744 =C:\SCSI\ASPI2DOS.SYS /D /Z
>DEVICEHIGH /L:1,28688 =C:\SCSI\ASPICD.SYS /D:ASPICDO
>DEVICEHIGH /L:1,12048 =C:\WINDOWS\SETVER.EXE
>DEVICEHIGH /L:1,27040 =C:\VIBRA16\DRV\VIBRA16.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220
>I:5 D:1
>DEVICEHIGH /L:1,10592 =C:\VIBRA16\DRV\CTMMSYS.SYS

When starting the game with my DOS boot disk it has a message just before
the prompt for the CD.
appreciate any help you might lend me. Thanx in advance!

Don't bother with the utilities...The low-sound is part of the sim.
You'll need to adjust (lower) the spotter's voice level in order for
the other sounds to pick up.  One of the things that N2 lacks is
that earth-shattering rumble as in N1.  :(

Hello Fellow Race Fans,
I got a good idea that shall and will work. It may take  about 1-4 weeks
depending at the pace I will go at to do thius idea. I could post a new
version of all the sound files with a increased volume of 100% + of volume
increase for the game.  Would you all like it? If so i will post the file
in the SPEED Page. I will put a post here when the file is done and posted
somewhere. So whatch out on a sound fix soon.

Yes it's me again with bad news. As I found out that you can't change the
file in size, you can't change its information. If its the same size or
not, it can't get changed as i expected it the way it should of. Oh well,
that project is said good bye. Sorry, but I can't figure out N2 at all. :-(

I had the exact same problem. It worked only when I stopped rebooting to
DOS and ran it straight out of Win95. Weird. Seems to work okay, though.
Good luck.

Hello all,
I had low sound in DOS N2 and believe it or not I cranked my volume in W95
in control panel multimedia
and it increased my sound level in DOS. And yes I shut down to dos mode.

Hope this helps someone,
Mike
