If it were mine I would buy an aftermaket ATX case and motherboard.
Strip the Compaq of all it's reusable parts. Then build a decent computer
from the parts. You should be able to do this for under $200 - $250.00

You might also have to replace the sound card and modem, I understand that
some Compaq's have these integrated into the motherboard.

If it were mine.

Hello,

I know this sounds pretty wild, but I have a really good hardware dilemma.
I have a Compaq Presario 5296 with PIII450 and 128 MB ram. It have two PCI
slots and a onboard ***ATI chip. The PCI slots are filled up with a SB Live
Value card and a Creative Voodoo2 12 MB.

I got my system from a Home-PC deal with my employer, so please don't tell me
what a chump i am who bought compaq, I can't at the moment affort soemthing
real.

I'm not really happy with it, because the jumper cable from the V2 is to short,
and I had to visit every computer shop in town to get a longer one, and when
I finally found one in the last shop, but it has very bad quality and the

monitor, so it just doesn't cut it.

I bought a Voodoo3 2000 PCI card but i won't work in my system, and Compaq,
even though they fixed the problem for about every presario system than the
one i have, refuse to look into the problem. Compaq tech support is sometimes
very good, and sometimes on another planet.

So, today i got this really wild idea: What about the Triller 8MB. It has a
TV out, it runs GPL at ridiculous speed, and that would be fun on my 32"
widescreen TV.

My questions are:
Will I get solid 36 fps in 800x600 with all graphics on in GPL? My V2 handled
it with some minor trouble, but after the 1.1 patch the framerate wen't a bit
down due to FF.

How will it work with the other sims like SCGT and so on.

Do anyone know how it would work in Half-Life or Unreal (yeah it's OT, but I
guess people don't play sims always)

Thanks a lot for any input.

If your monitor has two inputs (mine lets one choose between BNC and D-Sub
connectors), you can connect one input to your 2D video and the other one to
the V2. Then you can switch between the two using a button on the monitor.
This avoids the quality loss brought about by a pass thru cable.

Great idea, might be something for other V2 owners to think about.

But my monitor is Compaq too, so make one qualified guess if there are two
inputs on it :)
