Sometimes when racing I'll hear a alarm (sounds like a firebell ringing)
for a few seconds.  What does this signify?  Help me......

I know the sound you are referring to. It sounds as if the spotter is about to
give you an urgent message but then he doesn't say anything.

It think you'll find it's just a wake up call to say "look out!"

I tend to get it if I turn on somebody by accident

I think the sound is suposed to represent feedback you sometimes hear
on the radio between the spotter and driver during the race.

Hello Brian

I think you will find it is a deliberate simulation of the
"real" radio interference that occurs. As a part time truck
driver I often get similar interference while communicating
with other drivers and/or the office. Same goes for the click
before and after the spotter has spoken, it part of that type
of radio communcation.
Those who know more on the subject may like to comment.

My guess has always been that they are trying to simulate two radio
transmissions "stepping" on each other.

There are several sounds used for the radio on/off when your spotter
goes to say something. One of the radio on sounds, sounds like
"be-be-be" :) presumably just to simulate the odd noises that often
leak from a real driver-spotter radio.

Is this what it could be? The first time I heard it I thought it might
be a sound glitch until I looked at the .wav's in the sound data file.

It's simply the "squelch" sounds, with interference.  It is, in fact, quite
an accurate depiction of  the real thing!
