Can someone please re-post the info I need to stop the mirrors flickering in
GPL, I've tried various settings, but suspect an OpenGL problem with the
OpenGL patch from Papy.

Sorry to have to ask again, but I've just picked up the end of a thread from
Phil Lee, KAP, Turner etc, which seemed to offer an answer, which I missed.

Cheers,

Keith

Hi Keith -

One thing to note is to make a "registry entry" you need to run regedit, which
is done by using start>run and entering "regedit".  Note: the first path below

([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL])

is the one that I used. I have the newest Nvidia drivers.

The following worked for me!

regards,
Andrew

You need to make a registry entry. here are a two old posts that
explain what to do. read them CAREFULLY, then read them again, before
getting into the registry.

Newsgroups: rec.autos.simulators
Subject: How to fix GPL mirrors with any Nvidia driver

I just got the GPL demo yesterday and after seeing how good it is, I
plan on buying the game.  There was a problem with the cars' mirrors
though, which I've learned has been a long-time issue with the
tnt/tnt2 cards.  I searched the internet for a solution and came
across a message here about using the 3.53 reference drivers with the
"Use Block Transfer" setting to fix the problem, which works
perfectly.  The only problem is that those drivers suck hehe.  I
wanted to know how to enable that setting with the 2.08 drivers (the
best ones imo), and discovered that this fix can be applied to any
driver version by simply changing the value of the "FlippingControl"
setting in the registry to "0".

Depending on the driver version, this setting can be found in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL], or

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\00
01\NVidia\OpenGL]

When doing a fresh install, the settings won't appear in the registry
until an opengl game is run once.

You'll probably use the second path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\000
1\NVid ia\OpenGL

Keep in mind, that the 0001 could be 0000 or 0002 or whatever,
depending on the number of cards you HAVE or the number of drivers
you HAD installed. When you open the folder, look on the right side
of the split screen for "FlippingControl".  Double click it and a box
will open. Type 0 in the box and close the registry (just hit the x
to close the window). It automatically saves the changes. Generally
you don't have to reboot, but you may have to.

in your display settings goto settings/advanced/opengl and set "buffer
flipping mode" to "use block transfer"

that's what http://www.deja.com/usenet/ is for ;-)

I'm not trying to offend you at all (I even asked this same question here
once).
This question is asked several times a week.
Could anybody start a FAQ site for GPL where questions like flickering
mirrors, enableing FF,... all sorts of gpl related problems can be answered?
Or does it exist?

Thanks all for the advice.

The Registry edit worked fine, but of course the Creative/Nvidia video
control panel has an option to select the Flipping Buffer to Block mode,
which does the trick.

No offence taken at all.

As I said in my post, I caught the last few threads of the previous
discussion - my newsreader only loaded the last 300 headers, which missed
the vital info I was looking for.

Cheers again,

How is the GPL performance with the Geforce 2 GTS? Is it any good? Does
anybody else know whether its better than a Voodoo3 3500 (for GPL)?

Performance with GTS2 compared with V3-3000.

So far, I've not actually noticed much difference except that the colours
now appear to be far more vibrant and 'alive' when compared to the V3.

Since the game's display is limited to 36fpf anyway, I've not found any
problem in running in 1280x1024 display mode with full detail options and
graphics detail biased to the max - I still get a full 36fps on open road,
and experienced a small drop to something like 30fps in a 'busy' section of
track.

I'm generally pleased with the card, but the most benefit I find is from
running F1 2000 in 1024x768 with all the details and filtering effects (from
patch 1.06) turned up to the highest - there is visibly less jerkiness, even
on the back row of the starting grid, with all 22 cars in view - although I
do believe that this is processor dependent (mine's a PIII-550 OC'd to
682MHz with 124MHz bus) - and does get better with the cpu overclocked. That
said, it look pretty good in 800x600 on a G400Max in a PII-350 not OC'd.
