#1 is there a carset we are supposed to use so we all see the same cars.

#2 I have had a problem with IDIOTS starting the pace lap and crashing up
cars. Now how stupid do you have to be to nail people on the start. I
cant wait till my 10 races so my skill raises so I dont have to put up
with this. Just take it =easy on the starts, races are NEVER WON ON THE
FIRST LAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#3 If by chance u do wreck, dont blindly pull back on the track. I have
been taken out more than a couple of times by backmarkers who have been
crashing the whole race and spin out and whip back on the track and wipe
out all the leaders. Just be courteous and USE YOUR MIRRORS

#4 if you are not good a the particular track or wreck and you are slow,
please give up your spot when the leaders are coming around. There is
nothing worse than a zig zagging crappy backmarker who wont let you by.
learn the ctrl-function keys and let the leader know its ok to pass

#5 have fun, its a learning experience now so if you arent as fast as
everyonelse dont ruin the fun for everyone by stipid driving. Its a blst
so give it a try but be SMART

Shane,

Excellent points.  Thanks!

Multiplayer NASCAR is VERY different from single player.  It takes some
time to adjust to "real" opponents vs AI.  Pace laps, learning to watch
for cars as you pull back on the track, and learning when to give way to
others are much more important in the multiplayer world.

For those that have already downloaded HAWAII.EXE, PLEASE, PLEASE,
PLEASE, read NIMSTIPS.TXT.  This document was written by one of the best
drivers we know, Nim Cross (Nimc online).  He talks a lot about many of
the points shane makes.  PLEASE read it.

As for the car set, there is a MULTICAR.ZIP file that can be downloaded
from Hawaii.  That will give everyone the same car set.  Please
download it & use it!

There is a file on the BBS called Multicar.zip, it's the official
carset for the Network.  I recommend everyone get this set,
since every time you race, you are randomnly (I think) placed in
a car in the set, then it will help if someone calls out your car
number, the numbers will match.  It really cuts down on the confusion.

Sorry? What are these ctrl-function keys all about? Is it a special Hawaii
feature? I saw nothing about it in my NR manual.

Is these some reason why MULTICAR.ZIP is not on the papyrus web page
or FTP site?

Is is legal for the pits or iwcccars to shadow MULTICAR.ZIP?

I am just looking for an internet way, instead of a BBS way, to
download this (big?) file.

Yeah there is a file autochat.msg that controls in order Taunts
and anything else you want to say by hitting CTR F1-F9. In dos just type
edit autochat.msg, in the dir where it is of course

I downloaded MULTICAR.ZIP and it won't work I tried to go to that carset
and it crashed and said unable to load cars etc.. I had to reconfig the
carsets and I haven't tried it again for fear of screwing up real good.

The multicar.zip file needs to go into its own directory.  There are
specific instructions in the zip file.

Yes, I concur. Got the set from that 'project' site and, after
installing, when I selected it under 'player info->car sets' my screen
filled with EGA garbage and NASCAR would not re-load - had to
re-install (couldn't even fix the problem by editing a .cfg file,
syc.).  What gives?

Simon.

 folks ...

there are actually two carsets up on hawaii. The first generation is
multicar.zip which is very good and the second is mpcar2.zip which has a few
enhancements. Don't expect a bunch of highly detailed flashy cars here tho.
These sets are designed for function. First it's a common set so the when I say
'Hey #34 .. let's draft' ... both of our carsets have the same car designated
as #34. If you were running say WC96 and I were running BGN96, when I tried to
call you by car number, which is easier/shorter when racing, our numbers
wouldn't match. Secondly the colors and scheme of the cars has been developed
for max visability of both numbers and colors. You won't find any black, gray,
or deep colors in the set.

As the install problem goes ... remember to make sure that the carset is in a
sub dir of the same name ... example:

D:\NASCAR\CARS>

MPCAR2         <DIR>        03-05-96 10:25p MPCAR2
 |
 ->
   DRIVERS2 TXT         4,127  04-22-96  9:48p DRIVERS2.TXT
   MPCAR2   DAT     1,434,661  02-27-96 12:18a MPCAR2.DAT
   CAR-#S   TXT         3,317  02-27-96  1:17a CAR-#S.TXT
   HOW-TO   TXT         9,030  02-27-96  8:57a HOW-TO.TXT

If the carset named mpcar2 is in any other subdir than ..\nascar\cars\mpcar2
it's gonna crash.

hope this stuff helps.

As I understand, an FAQ is being put together for release next week. As soon as
it is released I'm sure it will get posted up on websites as well as on hawaii.

I am quite familer with the carset process. I have about 30 differnet set
right now. It just would not load that one. I had to delete it and rename
one of my other sets MULTICARS and then start the game change to a
different set leave and then change the set back to its original. In the
directory C:\nascar\cars\MUlticars     or do you mean C:\nascar\Multicars
