Installing F1rs, Why can't I choose 3Dfx option?

by EXCHANGE:CAR:9L » Wed, 05 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Hi

P166, w/64Mb
Diamond V2 w/8mb
ATI Turbo Pro 4mb.
etc

I'm hoping you gurus can help me solve this problem (Or maybe tell me
its not a problem)

When I go to install F1rs,  I can not choose the 3Dfx option, install
says no 3Dfx card installed.
I've done 3D full install and installed 1.09 3Dfx patch, but I stll have
very slow menus, bad sound
etc.

I've tried changing /ubisoft/ubisoft.conf (what ever the config file is)
to 3dfx=1 and set read-only
to prevent install from changing it bad, but I still get no 3Dfx card
installed message.

Will succesfully doing 3Dfx install fix my low FPS, slow menus and bad
sound?

Also: is there a way to display FPS during race?

Thanks for your help, any suggestions are welcome.

Scan your hard drive for other glide drivers. You should only have Voodoo 2
drivers in your Windows and Windows/System directories for a Voodoo 2.

Direct out of the FAQ from Ubisoft:

Question:

The game does not detect my 3DFX card, and will only allow a Direct 3D
install.

Answer:

You're probably using the 3DFX reference drivers or the very new
Orchid ones. On installing these, a couple of files are removed from
your windows/system directory. Some software specifically uses these
files to recognize the existence of a 3DFX card (including F1). The
only real solution is to put the files back in - this will not cause any
problems or degrade the performance of the newer drivers, but will
improve compatibility.

The missing files are

glide.dll
sst1init.dll

If you have these files, put them back into your windows/system
directory. If not, you can obtain them from

Hi

Thanks for the info, I guess the phrase RTFM comes to mind.

F1rs is now up and running great, that V2 is the best upgrade I've
even done.

I've still got 2 questions.

1) Can I display FPS during play?

2) Game does not recognise my Logitech Wingman Warrior (serial
connection),
Does anyone else have similar problem, any work arounds?

Thanks

Conan

Sorry, but I can't see any 3dfx-card in your statement above ??!!

Of course you need to HAVE a 3dfx-card to play F1RS in 3dfx ;-)

Also, man mailt sich...

What do you imagine a 'Diamond V2 w/8mb' would be then ?

Assuming you are having the troubles with Win98, a friend of mine had the
same problem. Downloaded the correct drivers from http://www.diamondmm.com/
and installed them. No more problems.

Installing F1rs, Why can't I choose 3Dfx option?

G'day

It's got nothing to do with Win98 you will need two files in your
windows\system folder the files are called glide.dll and Sst1init.dll F1rs
doesn't recognise the voodoo2 it just looks for these two files and if it
can't find them it it wont bring up the option of 3dfx.

I think these files are on the Ubisoft site, if you can't find them Email me
and I will send them to you.

Rgds Phil.
