Help! N2 hangs on Papyrus screen

by CMarlow7 » Wed, 07 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I have done a full install on my system(cyrix p200 chip, rhino 12+ motherboard,
32 meg 10 ns sdram, s2 virge 4meg video card), have tried running from win95,
dos window in win95, and from restarting the system in dos mode. I installed
the software while in dos mode.
In all three modes the intro video of the cars running around the track works
and the music plays, but when the papyrus screen comes up nothing happens.  I
have to cntrl-alt-del to get out.
I also have tried it using joystick plugged in and also tried it with CH racing
system wheel and pedals plugged in.
Anyone have any suggestions.
thanks, Chris Marlow

Music?  There's music in the intro?  I just got this game tonight and
so far I've managed to***things up.  I guess I don't need UniVBE with
DirectX on a PCI video card.  I also need to figure out why it will not
acknowledge my steering wheel, and "Control Panel" won't find it either.
Ugh.

Since you are having problems all the way around, it seems that you are
either having trouble with your soundcard settings or even the
possibility of some bad memory.  N2 seems to be quite picky when it runs
across some "flakey" memory.  You might want to lower any agressive
memory settings you have in your BIOS and see if this makes a
difference.

I had to delete the joystick in devices and let Windows 95 find it
again.  Have your Windows 95 CD handy.

There is music in the opening intro movie.  To the best of my knowledge
your soundcard must have Soundblaster emulation turned on for the sound
to be played.  The intro program does not use your standard card
settings generated by the setup program, but defaults to pure
SoundBlaster.

The UniVBE driver has nothing to do with DirectX or PCI.  It is there
generally for older video cards which do not have the latest VESA
drivers in their BIOS.  Some cards can actually receive a better frame
rate with the UniVBE vs. the VESA drivers in their BIOS.

Is your steering wheel Device ID 1 in the Control Panel?  Try removing
all devices listed and then put your steering wheel as Device 1.
