Have you tried editing the sound quality?

Go to Gpl folder and open app.ini file. Set the sound to ....

[ Sound ]
soundQuality = 0                         ; Relative quality for sound

This reduces the sound to a lower fidelity and claws back 2 or 3 frames.
Also, make sure that you have only 3 sounds selected in options. Lastly,
make sure that your detail bias slider is fully to the left. I say this
because you make no mention of it in your post.

Don't expect miracles but this might make a bit of difference.

MS

So far, it's gone well - but I have a problem now.
major fps problem at the end of the long straight, that lasts through about
3 turns - then fine again.  As far as I can tell, it's got something to do
with all the crowds placed there.  On this track you are unable to turn
these off in the settings.  I'm running a P2 266 with V3-2000 and most
detail off already - nothing left to turn off basically.
GPL edit or perhaps perform this operation for me??
