Race Driver 2 with a gamepad??

Ofcourse you'd only want to play racing games with a wheel.
I'm not a PC gamer though so I'm hesitant to invest in a
wheel (or an Xbox) for just one game. Can anyone tell me if
RD2 is playable with a console'ish gamepad? (I could justify
buying a pad for this..)

Thanks for any insights or experience!

Given its XBox roots (and how much tweaking had to actually be done to
get it to play nice with my wheel), I'd be willing to bet it would work
just fine.

Just make sure you get a gamepad that has analog triggers or something
similar, something with a decent throw and not too stiff.   The
analog-stick for gas & brake like the PS2 uses just isn't really an
option, you need something more like the XBox or Dreamcast controller.
If you can find a Dreamcast controller and a DC adapter, I'd say that's
an excellent find.

Keep in mind that I haven't played TRD2 on the PC with a gamepad, so I
could be talking out my arse...

I have the PC and Xbox versions of Race Driver 2.  The PC version is
playable with a gamepad.  I have a Logitech Dual Action gamepad and it's
"okay", but not as nice as the S controller (with the dual analog triggers)
for the Xbox.  My Logitech MOMO Force wheel is much preferable on the PC,
especially now that Codemasters has released the patch to allow players to
tweak the linearity of the wheel.  The Dual Action gamepad allows me to use
the right analog thumbstick as a throttle and brake, which is better than
individual digital acclerator and brake buttons.  The left one does fine for
steering, probably even a little better than the thumbstick with the S
controller for the Xbox version.

If you are going to spend $20-$30 for a pad might as well spend $50-$75 for
a wheel. You will be glad you did.

Hell I only spent $69 for my Logitech Force Racing wheel and I think it's
one of the best ones out there. Look for it on sale somewhere.

CompUSA occasionally sells the Momo Racing under a rebate program for $69.

Thanks for all the feedback, people. I'm from the Netherlands, and
-like in the UK- we're looking at different prices for almost anything
here. Pricewatch indicates that (for example) a Momo Racing will
set me back at least US$145. So a crappy $15 gamepad is totally
different kind of "investment" to me :)

But thanks anyway!
