The effects might seem desirable, and might even help someone with a
heavy foot. But there are tradeoffs.
Take the curva grande at monza, for example. For the optimum braking
and acceleration, the car has to drift in the turn. Try a rear toe in of
.500, and see how the car tends to straighten up in the curva. I suppose
that a higher clutch setting would make the rear loose in the turn(under
power the rear will want to swing out), but then the purpose of the high
rear toe setting was to stabilize the rear! The key is to find a
balance.
Lately I've been trying to change my style, to use the gas to steer by
kicking the rear out in turns. In the Ferrari, that meant changing the
clutches from 1 to 3. That one change means a big difference to
acceleration out of a slow turn. I tried high rear toe settings but am
now back to the .150 range.
At monza this clutch change took a second off my lap times. 129.xx in
the ferrari. It really helps in the lesmos and parabolica to be able to
swing the back end of the car around with the gas.
Note of caution : I am not a particularly fast driver, so take this
advise with a grain of salt.
