I was just wondering why Jackie Stewart would refuse to be included in
GPL. It seems really strange to me considering (I'm going to date myself
here) he was the pitchman for a slot car racing game many, many years
back. I remember when he was selling the slot car set. It was a fast
paced, fast talking type of commercial. I thought it was rather
convincing since I wanted one of the slot car sets with Jackie Stewart
really badly.

Anyway, with GPL all he probably would have been required to do was to
let Papyrus use his name and perhaps a little history of his racing team
and such. He wouldn't even have had to open his mouth. Oh well, such is
life.

Now where's that game editor?

or it could be that he just wanted too much cash, royalties, percentages of
profit etc. etc. (probably more like your reason though..)

Glen already gave the most likely reason for this.

In the GPL main directory, you'll find a file called driver.ini. Just
subtitute one driver name with Stewart and fiddle a bit with the
parameters to make him behave like you think he should.

Or check the different GPL websites. I seem to remember somebody
already made a patch to include Stewart.

Yes, it could be simple economics.

Consider this, though.  In the late '60s and early '70s, Stewart
was in the forefront of those pushing for greater driver safety
measures.  His autobiography "Faster" (with Peter Manso) covers the
1970 season and gives a lot of insight on his mindset (including the
death of close friend Jochen Rindt and several other drivers that
season).  He may have been reluctant to put his name on (into) a
product that he felt glorified this dangerous time or trivialized the
mortal peril that the drivers faced.  (Consider Sierra's advertising
campaign -- "In 1968 racing was made safer -- welcome to 1967".)

I made one that inserts Stewart & Spence in the Team Menu(driver pics), in all the
results, plus their cars will appear with appropriate numbers and name on them...
I didn't adjusted their performances, but it could easily be altered using AI
Tweaks...

The patch is available under the filename "BRMnew1.zip" at "The APEX - Grand Prix
Legends HQ"  /   http://gpl.gamestats.com/

Enjoy!

I'm not up on GP history, but maybe Jackie Stewart sucked in '67, and didn't
wan't to be reminded.  (no flames, please - it's just a bad joke!).

Good point.  He didn't suck, but his car (BRM) sure did.  He had nine
mechanical DNF's out of eleven races! I think I'd want to forget that,
too. The two races he finished, he did well - second at Spa and third at
France.
