Prix Legends to work across this configuration. Couldn't find the
right place in any of the game menus?
Do I need additional software? VROC? Or is that just for Modem use?

No, you don't need any extra software for this. Just do the following
...........
On the machine that will host the game:
Select multiplayer
In the multiplayer screen, select "HOST" & under "Accept Connections Via"
select TCP/IP NODE xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
(xxx = you machines IP address). Also select 2 players (Don't know if this
makes much difference).
On your other machine:
Select Multiplayer
In the multiplayer screen, select "JOIN" & under "Accept Connections Via"
select TCP/IP NODE xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
At the bottom of the screen is a box entitled "Local Games". In this box
will be listed the IP address of the machine hosting the race. Select this
line and click the green button.
Hope this helps

There is this line in core.ini though, that I suppose will allow you to
run at IPX bandwidth speeds over a LAN :
net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip = 1 ; Use modem bandwidthfor TCP/IP
Setting it to 0 would set TCP/IP to use LAN bandwidth.
Easier to just use IPX, IMO.

You may be correct about the merits of IPX over TCP/IP, I have never tried
it. However, I don't think it will make any difference in the context of
Adrian's original message where he wants to link only two pc's together.
Also, he is more likely to already have TCP/IP networking installed and not
necesarilly IPX. Therefore using TCP/IP he can get racing between the two
pc's without having to install and configure any other networking protocols.
I do take your point though. If you had a lot of pc's networked for GPL then
IPX would be a better option, but alas, not many of us are in that position.

Russell
So, is it really worth the extra agro of switching everyone to IPX?
It sounds like just switching off the modem bandwidth setting for
TCP/IP will sort it out? Is IPX really that much better for GPL?
Adrian
Nothing really needs to be 'switched', just 'added'. I am no computer
whiz, yet adding the IPX protocol in Network Properties is a simple and
painless 2 minute job (for me). Right click Network Neighborhood, click
'Install', select 'Protocol', click 'Add', select 'IPX'. Reboot. Done
and done.
This I do not know, and if at one time I tested it out, I cannot
remember the outcome.
