Busch and NCTS for N2002?

by Tim Ferrel » Sat, 23 Mar 2002 04:59:19

Hi All,
Anyone hard anything about a Busch/NCTS update for N2002? It's a shame that
at least the Busch series was left out of the original game (unlike N3)
Anything in the works?

Dunno, they never made the CTS addon for N4, likely won't happen for 2002
either. Pure speculation, but I would not hold my breath. It isn't just the
physics and graphics, it also new tracks. Apprently too much work for
Papy...sorry Papy for the slam, but a LOT of folks would like to see the
trucks and new tracks. I have owned the NR series since verision 1, but did
not go online or join a league until the CTS addon came out for N3 and I
dearly miss the trucks. We want to race the truck, hehe.

Well now that Papy has a good produst in NR2002 I hope they do the add-on
thing. I'd love to see Busch and the trucks. Good for Papy and bad for us is
that the Busch and CTS series are running more of the same tracks and
dumping tracks that truly made each series specail.

Why do you think this is Papyrus' decision?

If you look through the .ini files for Nascar 4, you'll see that
someone at Papyrus had apparently expected a Busch or Truck expansion
since there is a place to define physics for different vehicle types.

If there is not a Busch or Craftsman expansion, it will be because
Sierra doesn't view them as money makers, not because Papyrus isn't
interested.  If Papyrus called the shots, we'd probably have Grand
Prix Legends 2 and Indycar 3 by now.

The thing that boggles me is that Papyrus has already put the hooks in for
different classes.  N4 and N2002 have a file structure and online reporting
that can easily allow more than one class or division of racing.  They've
even got a coloum for it on the N4 multiplayer server selection
screens...(haven't checked 2002 yet tho)  so I would think they have at
least explored this avenue...I would think the disappointing retail response
to the CTS truck pak for N3, retailors wouldn't even stock the product,
probably put the Kibosh(kie-Bosch)<think David Hobbs>  on any more
trackpak/expansion efforts by Papyrus.

That is true, but there was a definitive change in philosophy after that.
Their policies changed, they no longer consider expansion packs to be
something worth the effort.  It's a shame. Perhaps they should change their
company logo from "Papyrus Racing Games" to "Papyrus Annual Stockcar Games".
Hehe ;)

Hopefully, there is something different.  CMON NOW, just something
different.  We aren't necessarily asking the biggest/best/greatest.  Just...
something... different...

You guys gambled in 1994 when you released something called "Nascar Racing".

While I agree with your point about about retailers not wanting to stock it
based on past sales I think that was Seirra's fault. The only way to get the
CTS retail local was to get the Accel pack which included N3,CTS, and
Legends. For those of us that already had N3 and Legends it was very
overpriced. If they would have made the CTS pack available outside of buying
direct from Seirra I think it would have done alot better. I remeber the
original Busch series addon for N2 was a good seller. One of the better $20
I had spent at the time.

Do you think that might have been because of all the problems and bad press
with N4? If you look at the general reactions to NR2002 vs. N4 I think it
made sense to dump N4 ASAP.

Damn straight!

What about all the bad press for 2002?  FOr the 1st few weeks there seemed so many bitter posts
about people complaining it should have been a patch to N4.

I would love to see both of these in expansion packs, heck I would buy both
if they were separate expansions!

that's because they hadn't spent any time with it. There's a big difference
between the two imo.

I totally agree, but I believe it still is hurting the sales of 2002, and might doom any chances of
add-ons like CTS or Busch.  Although I can only hope.  I think the idea of add-on packs for
different series is a great idea, but the ROI might be too low for a company to pursue it these
days.

I never quite understood that.  I personally think, and it's pure
speculations, that something or somebody changed either in the executive
section of Sierra or Papyrus and he clearly decided to go against the
Expansion pack.  Because, they *clearly* stated there would be an expansion
pack for N4.  I mean, it was in their plan but it suddenly disappeared.

Anyway developers will continue to threat us like shite.
