NR2002 Racing ...-Why ?????

by Tim Deatherag » Mon, 18 Feb 2002 12:42:23

Hey Sierra Racing Gurus,

I have been out of Computer Simulator *** group for about 6 months due to
my career as a CPA,   managing my mother's estate (she passed on 9/24/01)
and my brother's estate plus I got into Nitro R/C racing (See
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
entrance back into RC cars.)

Yesterday,  I got an email from Sierra advertising NR 2002 Racing Season so
I downloaded the demo and it's ok considering I've got an antiquated Pentium
III 450 mhz which will soon be updated to a Pentium 1.6 ghz and a 64 mb
Ultra Nvidia card (or better)

What is the difference between N4 and NR2002 Racing Season except that
NR2002 RS requires more processor and more bandwidth for racing. FWIW, I've
got a DSL line ordered and just waiting for the tech to install.

BTW, what is the best Direct 3d card to get ( 64 mb to 128mb), brand name,
and between $ 100 and $ 300 ????????

As always THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!

"Tim Deatherage" >
Sorry to hear about your family.    You are looking for a card up to $300
so that eliminates teh 128mb cards, those will be around $400 to $500 I
think.   A Geforce 3 Ti 200 is a good choice of speed and value...64 mb and
can easily be overclocked to close to Ti 500 speeds.  AVOID at all costs the
GF2 MX and GF4 MX type cards...(not wanting to upset loyal MXers, just trust
me.)

No offense, but that's incorrect. I purchased a 128 MB GF3 Ti200 (Gainward)
from Newegg.com for $196 (retail box version too) and they are now $182. You
are correct about the overclocking, it's not hard to achieve Ti500 speeds
with the Ti200.

No problem...always glad when others step in with help.  In fact...I
didn't even KNOW the Ti(200) had a 128mb version until I saw somebody elses
post on another thread.  There is always something to learn.  :)
You

  thanks for the added info.

No it doesn't. There will be one GF4 just one notch down from the top of the
line card and will be about that price. Also, Radeon 8500's are being
re-released with 128mb on them at the same price as the original 64mb 8500,
which was about $300.00.

yes, I got caught out by those new cards.  But, still need to stress to
AVOID the GF4mx...from what I gather it is just a hotrodded GF2mx that
doesn't support all the features the rest of the GF4 line does.
