Right on the mark.  You cannot compare NFS to Nascar and Indycar, they
are two different experiences.  This is an arcade game and it is FUN! Not
saying Nacar/Indycar are not, but they are different.  I have all three,
and they all get equal amount of playing time. It all depends on whether
I want to sit down and have some quick enjoyment (NFS) or tinker for the
best setup.

BTW, I am running this on a Dell Pentium 120 w/Diamond Stealth 2meg VRAM
card.  The graphics are among the best I have ever seen.

Actually it becomes a bit ***after a month, well it did on my 3DO.

P.S The cornering IS SHIT, the car says 'PISS OFF' when you try to turn (Without sliding)

GIVE ME F1GP 1&2 any day.

Need For Speed, my opinion/review

: ... it has a fantastic driving model, which I think
: it just as good in some ways as Indycar and Nascar.  Sure, the latter two
: take into account tire condition (wear and temperature), wing settings,
: camber, etc...but the traction model in NFS is just fantastic if you ask me.

Actually, I've been wondering lately if NFS _does_ take account of tyre
wear - particularly at the Autumn [whatever] track, where my driving
style consists of taking as many corners as possible sideways, I do seem
to have significantly less grip on the later laps.

The two things that bother me most about NFS's "realism" are:

- no slipstreaming (aka "drafting").  I used to do this on the
road with a 1300cc Fiat, so it must be all the more significant
  at these kind of speeds.

- the rough stuff at the sides of the road slows you down 5 or 6
times faster than the brakes do, even if you just put one wheel
over the line at high speed - surely that can't be accurate?
I would expect to have _less_ traction off the road surface.

I do agree that the on-the-road traction modelling is very good -
particularly the Diablo with the front drive cutting in when the
rears spin.

Can't imagine? That is why you prefer NFS, it is for arcade types, F1GP requires driving skill,
strategy, finesse of control and practice. I won EVERY tournament round in NFS the first time I
played it, that's why I've owned it for a week and have returned to F1GP and NASCAR. A helluva nice
looking game but absolutely no depth. The Pamela Anderson of driving games.

Cheers!
John

I have to agree.  After two weeks of playing (couple of hours every few days), I have won the
tournaments, seen the bonus tracks and the other goodies.  I'm basically sick of that game now.
Might come back to it later on, just to enjoy the scenery and the hair raising drive down the coast or
on Alpine road with traffic.  Pretty good, especially when travelling at 160+ mph.  I think being
able to drive in traffic is what makes this game (and the Test Drive series) so fun.

Pity I can't finish F1GP, Indycar and NASCAR as easily as Need For Speed.
