"Need for speed LE" vs "Need for speed"

What is the difference between the "Need for speed " and the "Need for
speed LE" version??
Is LE the light version?

I wanted to buy this game, but ComputerExpress told me that ONLY the
LE version exists, the other has been discontinued! WHY?

Thanks,

Marc

Need for speed SE (Special Edition) works under DOS and Windows 95
(DirectX).
It has 2 more tracks and works better than the old version.
Both are on CDROM and need a quick PC. To run under Win95 it requires 16
MB RAM.
NFS SE is recommended. A new version 2 seems to be released this year.

Whether or not it "works better" has been under debate for a
while :-).  Some people claim that NFSSE refuses to work at all on their
computers, whereas NFS did.  Regardless, these are the differences:
-As mentioned, two new closed-circuit tracks, which are pretty good
but hard to see if you happen to be running in low-res.
-In-car music.  A selection of ***rock and so-called techno.
Is it so difficult to program a Screamer-esque CD player?
-Time of day option lets you drive at dawn/dusk/daytime/night (only
two possible choices per track).  Really just a palette shifter.
         And no headlights!
        -In-car map.  Somewhat handy.
-8-player networking.  Great if you have a network...
        -Points-based championship, instead of must-win-to-advance.
-Run any track in mirror image if you win the championship.  Wow.
-Slight gameplay tweaks and visual changes.  Probably my imagination
but there does seem to be a bit more body roll in SE.

Are you sure its not SE? 'Cause se is Special Edition

I wanted the original too:(
I have no idea, prob cause the SE/LE was in more demand.
Guess we'll have to look to 2nd hand stuff eh?

My favorite addition to NFSSE is the use of pedals for the gas
and brake pedals.
