This 'next GPL' comparison is kind of silly anyway, what makes GPL
special is that it simulates one of the most interesting years in F1
history. And allthough N2003 for example is technically 10x better
than GPL, it can't keep me interested in the way GPL does.

But anyway, this evening I downloaded and tested both LFS and Netkar.

LFS: Personally I find LFS quite boring. I don't get a sensation of
speed at all and controlling the car is very easy. The graphics look
great, but with 5 other AI cars in front of me the AI drops with about
40% :-/ Maybe LFS is more fun when you unlock the faster cars, I did
so with the first release of LFS, but the only thing I can remember
about that is that I quickly grew tired of LFS so I can't really
bothered to go through the unlocking fase now.
Unless someone can convince me that LFS really gets a lot more
exciting with the faster cars..

Netkar: Gave it a try a couple of months ago, can't remember which
release version it was. I was impressed, but not enough to keep it on
my HD. After reading good things about the new version I installed it
(most easy installation I ever had in a racing sim btw), selected the
F3000 and Falkenberg, and waited a couple of seconds for the whole
bunch to load.
I gave gas and WHOOOOOAAAAAAA HOLY ****** ! That sound! That sensation
of speed!!! Very, very impressed with Netkar. The last time I had such
a big grin on my face was the first time I played GPL ;)

LFS is in a further stage of development than Netkar, but Netkar shows
so much more long-term promise.. I'm sure the West Bro's weren't happy
when they saw what one hobbyist programmer delivered here ;)

Please guys.. tell me the Ring has allready been converted to
Netkar???

Maybe cause it actually feels like a real roadcar on the limit? (driving the
FWD)
I think LFS has the best tiremodel too, of any sim right now actually.
(except the RWD-cars.. they feel wierd)
but the FWD is just a masterpiece!.

sure could get better, but its better then the rest right now.
and it has actually working tire-pressure in lfs, if you have forcefeedback
you will feel what i mean.

so very true!.

The grip thing in LFS works so real!. Very talented programmer scawen!.
Still it doesnt regain grip really like a real tire (well not like my cars
tires), but its so close, that it doesnt bother me :)

Netkar is just ice-skating for me, and just feels wierd. :/
but its getting better and better

I feel like the cars dont give any feedback at all in NetKar before
something happens, and the tires doesnt seem to want to regain grip.

The feeling of speed between LFS and Netkar feels identical to me (when
running the same FOV of course)  You can't really compare the LFS cars to an
F3000 though.  The main problem with LFS is that its 3D engine is very
sluggish on anything less than a 3GHz PC. (For no apparent reason)

Yes, yes, yes....I've downloaded (last night) the latest release....and
spent an hour with it before my post.
How on earth anyone can say that this is the modern GPL beats me.

As I said; fun, it is.  GPL, it ain't.

Bruce.

system.

Yeah, but you said your 50ms LCD was fine too.....it's all relative.  Bottom
line is that LFS runs at nearly half the frame rate of Netkar, F1C or N2003
at a given level of detail.

Who knows, maybe it's a *** :-) It might even be down to people's
controllers... the default FF may be confusing me and my Logi Momo. Next
time I try NK I'll disable FF and see if that helps me feel more at
ease.

In LFS I get 42 FPS at 1280x960 with 4xFSAA, 8xAF on my XP2500+
Barton/9700 Pro. Not too shoddy.

It IS fine for ***. The rest of the guys at the LAN party
begrudgingly agreed.

1200x1600 60fps on a well tuned AMD 2700+ with Radeon 9700.
