N4/DX8 problems...need help guys

by PHendrix » Sat, 17 Feb 2001 14:47:07

Ok, I think I've FINALLY managed to get the total lock ups of my system to
stop.  But, due to a massive brain fart, I installed DX 8.  I went to
Microsoft's web site to download DX8a.  After downloading and installing, I
looked at the file, and it says "dx80eng".  Shouldn't it be dx80Aeng??  I'm
asking because now my controllers are completely messed up.  The game
controller screen won't recognize my Sidewinder gamepad at all, and the buttons
on my trusty TSW are all goofed up.

Does anyone have another link to dx8a?  Or am I just screwed, and need to wipe
windows and start over?

Thanks guys

My version of DX8a is called exactly the same thing as well, so I think
you've downloaded the right file.  Plus one of the controller bugs with 8.0
(2 missing buttons on my Precision Racing Wheel with GPL) was fixed by
downloading this file, so I'm pretty sure it really is 8.0a.

They didn't rename the files.

I used it to remove 8.0 and it worked great.  I reinstalled 7.0 and the
controller problem is gone.  USB controllers get recognized immediately
instead of the 30 second wait for the controller screen to come up.
