Could anyone answer this question for me? I've noticed several guys
seem to be experiencing a dropoff in frame in GP2 as a result of using a
Rendition board. I believe them, obviously it's happening, but I'd just
like to know a logical reason for this.
Something in my Intergraph card's info says that the card might slow
down VGA stuff, but I didn't see anything that says it should slow down
SVGA games. Or is that it, are the slowdowns in VGA mode?
I have one VGA Dark Forces game, and it seems a little bit slower
perhaps, but not bad. I wouldn't know about the difference with GP2, as
I bought that sim AFTER I had already been using the Rendition card for
a while. I think my frame rates were around 10-12 fps with almost all
the details off on the 133 Pentium I had in here. Recently I purchased
a 200 Mhz MMX Overdrive, and this bumped them up to 16-20 fps, with
EVERYTHING turned on!
But I have many other SVGA games and sims, and I really don't think
the Intense 3D caused any dropoffs in performance in the ones that don't
utilize the hardware. In fact, I would say the opposite, it actually
(but very slightly) improved the performance in some of them. But maybe
that's just because it's much better than the old 2D card.
Well, if anyone can answer this, thanks. I would just like to know
why a Rendition card should slow down GP2 so badly.
