Honestly, the ratings system is so unreliable in my eye, I don't think the
numbers make the man when it comes to that. The 5-10 servers are up to
support the wreckers that have been at it longer IMO...
Ratings do not tell the truth. I'd rather race a 0 rated driver with a LPI
of 100 than any 8 rated driver with a LPI of 15.
I've done 5-10 races at SS tracks, as well as 0-10 races. Even at 5-10,
crashes occur during pacing, as well as in T1. Ppl do 3 wide in 5-10 as
well. Of course, 3 wide causes a wreck. The wrecking may in fact be worse in
a 5-10 race than in a 0-10 race, because the 5-10 race has a tighter field,
thereby involving more ppl in the wreck.
IMO, LPI tells more about the *racing* skills of the driver than the rating.
Lpi measures your ability to adapt to any situation.
In real life, a *** wreck means that you cannot complete the race. In
N2002, that wreck costs 3 points, in addition to the points lost by loosing
a few positions in the race. You will still be able to finish. But loosing
a few positions in a 43 driver field is more profitable than avoiding the
wreck and finish last.
True racers will avoid the wreck, even if this means applying the brake
pedal <grasp!>, thereby risking loosing a few positions. The wannabes do not
lift off at all. This is their chance to advance. They put the pedal to the
metal, and will be ding 3 wide. Of course this will result in a wreck, too.
An intentional wrecker may get a 9 at every track by scaring every other
driver to exit the race. This will improve his rating. But his Lpi is less
likely to improve.
Ratings are overrated.
