GPL Steering Problem

by Paul Jage » Sat, 14 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I have been playing GPL with a joystick, but I have now
bought a MSFF wheel (no FF yet in GPL but who knows?!!)
However the wheel is extremely twitchy (?) especially on the
straight. I have tried calibrating it every time I play, and I have tried
all the linear settings but it is still temperamental.
Am I missing something  ie steering ratio. I have a
450 PII with 2xM Monster Diamond 12mb 3dfx cards
if that info is any help.

(As an aside, sometimes I keep the Force Feedback switched
on the wheel-good feeling of friction)
Thanks in anticipation

Uff, if you turn off the FF (center button on wheel), then the wheel
will OF COURSE be twitchy. There is NO resistance. So keep the FF on,
if the centering force is too strong, you can configure that in the
SideWinder software.

Paul,

I use 16:1 steering ratio and an almost linear steering setting.

I also use the highest resistance and centering force on the MS wheel.

It is rock solid, and not twitchy at all. Make sure your setups are right for
your style of driving. Too little toe-in makes the car turn better, but makes
it goofy on the straights until you master the car.

Krabby
