RASCAR: BFarmer and Grub open pickup race

Well, we should have known better than to try that bristol race on the
open server. BFarmer and I were waiting in our lobby room to see if JSimmons
might show up host a race when we decided to enter an open bristol race. Had
a pretty peaceful practice and qualified 3rd and 4th respectfully. We had a
"gentleman's agreement FAST setup" so that we could learn something about
this setup in a racing enviroment. .

whole field. I even led the race a little bit before WILLYWALMART punted me
into the fence. BFarmer didn't fare as well and left the race before the
halfway point. WILLYWALMART did not spare anyone....including our own
BFarmer. Out of approx 15 to 20 cars, I was one of 3 to survive.
WILLYWALMART car never to seem to get hurt. That was until I used some
of my 'NOVICE' driving skills (as defined by Tom P) to turn him into the
inside wall so that he could experience a headon into the pit entrance wall.
The wreckers would have been proud. (snif)
As I drove away from WILLYWALMART's crash scene, tears filled my eyes as
I calmly said, " this one's for you BFarmer".(snif)
WILLYWALMART disappeared on the next lap vowing to go attempt to ruin
another open race. I on the other hand, will cherish the day that I, grub,
regressed to the most basic human animalistic behavior, and stuck that

Yep, punted from behind in 1st turn, then taken out about lap 15, but got it
going again, then taken out again(!) a few laps later by someone going the
wrong way.   Funny thing was, ol' Willywalmart was complaining about everybody
else...

Every now & then I need to be reminded as to *why* I don't race on Open
servers.   :o(

And no, TP, the RASCAR races are NOT like Papy Open races.  ;oP

Oh, grub, thanks for letting me get my lap back early on, but I think we made
a mistake in staying in that one.

Sorry about that.  The server machine took a major nose-dive today and
took (of all things) the monitor with it.  The whole system appears to
be FUBAR.

I've been working all night trying to put the pieces back together
(monitor, CD-ROM, and hard drive are all goners though)...

Wholly crap, John!  What happened?  Its not the easiest thing in the world
to just "tank" a system like that.  Did you get a direct lightening strike
or something?

It was really kinda spectacular.  I was sitting there yesterday morning
configuring the server for the day's races, when the monitor started
making weird crasckling noises, kinda like it was continually trying to
re-sync to the video signal.  I didn't think much of it and left for
work.

When I got to work, my wife called and said the crackling had started
again, but this time, she heard a loud buxx and muffled "whomp" sound,
and smoke started pouring from the CRT.  So I told her to shut off all
the computers.

I got home and the monitor was toast (literally), and when I powered up
all the systems (I have four), I found that the server machine wouldn't
boot or post.  I think the whole thing is gone, but I know for sure the
drives are (even the floppy).  I think the power supply in the PC went
nuts.
