Some of the records are tough to match.  However, if you watch the real
race speeds being turned on these tracks you can certainly run as fast or
faster.  The record speeds were run during qualifying with a qualifying
motor under the hood.  Papyrus does not simulate a qualifying motor - so
you are doing laps with a standard race configuration.  Here is a couple of
examples of reasonable and competitive race speeds at different types of
tracks.  These are competitive times - not stellar times.  If you can
consistently run laps in this area you should finish on the lead lap and in
the top ten.  These speeds are also very close to what the WC guys run on
the actual tracks - although they drop off more when the tires start to
wear.

Dover - 149-152 mph.
Talladega - 194-196 mph
C***te - 178-181mph
Martinsville - 88-90 mph
Sears Point - 88-90 mph

Don't forget Taladega has a restrictor plate now.  If you modify the
track.txt file you take the restrictor off and really haul up around
230+.  (tracks\taladega\taladega.txt - change spdway from 1 to 0 or 0
to 1 - I forget)

PRACTICE and use the faster setups.  I've shaved lots of time off and am
close on some tracks. I just ran a 66 lap race at C***te.
Felt like Texas, I hit everything in sight....
