What are your guys thoughts on the Ferrari?  I thought I'd ask this
since it doesn't say anything about it in the Steve Smith book w/ the
game, which I think is strange, since the Ferrari seems like an alright
car, and the sound of that engine is awesome!

The Ferrari is a pretty good car, with a great engine indeed..

About the guidebook found with GPL, the problem was that when the book was
finished and shipped for the whole post-production process Scuderia Ferrari
wasn't licensed yet into GPL. That's why they had to take off any mention of
it inside the guidebook.

Steve Smith still has wrote a continuation of the guidebook and talks about
the Ferrari car on Alison's GPL website (she was a Papyrus beta tester) at
this URL :

Have a nice reading (and get those Coventry setups hehe)   ;)

The Ferrari handles awesome, brakes awesome and I've never blown an
engine.  (Well shifting from 5th to reverse under speed does the trick ;)

Oh yeah, the engine sound is -- awesome :)

The only draw back is it's top speed.

Handles awesome?!?  Ok, you're a better driver than *I* am.  I can't get very
far without mowing the lawn with it...

Well maybe 'tossable' is the word I was looking for.

I find the Lotus not as 'tossable' for instance :)

I'm wondering if it's just my system, or....

But I've noticed a marked difference in the engine sound, volume,
quality/stereo, depth etc... when running the Ferrari in Training mode Vs.
during a race, have you?

BTW, I'm running a PII 266, SoundBlaster AWE32, 64RAM, 4meg PCI, Riva128
based video card with the Beta2 OpenGL patch.

I prefer it.  It can be a handful, especially on cold tires, but
the predictability of the (sometimes ponderous) suspension
travel/balance/imbalance is required for my PATHETIC driving
skills.  I prefer it to the Lotus and Eagle because both of those
cars are too twitch for my aformentioned pathetic driving.

The Ferrari is a good car. It's about a second or so slower than the Lotus
or Eagle at Monza, but is a lot easier to handle. It has enough speed, and
superior handling in the turns to keep a Lotus at bay, but will have trouble
over-taking it.

On the other hand, the Ferrari engine rarely goes boom. And the predictable
handling means you aren't as likely to be flying of course - which is
usually the difference in online racing.

I find the Ferrari the most fun to drive and the handling most life-like
(well, this an assumption of course). I find it predictable and gives good
notice of a slide getting out of hand. Although it doesn't have great
acceleration or impressive top speed, I can chuck it around a bit and it
forgives me. It will rev almost off the scale and still stay in one piece.
In short, it is a pleasure to drive, and you can't say that about the Lotus
when you're twitching on a knife edge even in a straight line!

But why is it so hard to keep on track compared to Cooper or even
Lotus? Does it come from the shorter distance between front and rear
wheels?

Ok, so I'm guessing the Eagle is in-between the two.  I can't handle the Lotus
EITHER... :)

That's odd. I've found that the Lotus is more stable than either the Eagle or the
Ferrari. Just requires a delicate touch and a heavy foot. ;-)

Try a different setup ... there's some good ones on the web in various
places.

Also don't assume *anything* based on the first lap.

Too each his own, really.  If you notice the following poster, he
says he prefers the Lotus for exactly the same reasons I have
trouble with it.  It's a matter of driving style and skill,
methinks.

Yes, I would say for me the Eagle is between the Lotus and
Ferrari (btw, these are the only 3 cars I have driven in GPL).
Unfortunately for me, I suck so bad at GPL I have to reduce
myself to one single car for now, in an effort to get completely
comfortable enough to complete a 9 lap race.  Once I can do that
comfortably (not likely! LOL), I'll start experimenting more with
other cars.

The Eagle does have some inspiring traits, no doubt about it, I
just can't handle it over the entire length of a 9 lap race at
Spa.  I'm just not a good enough pilot :(.

I find the Ferrari impossible to drive as with the Brabham.  Frankly i think
the Eagle is the most stable in the game but thats just my style.  The BRM and
Lotus are good for me too and the Honda  is right there too.  As for the
Ferrari, Brabham, and Coventry...I find them decidely "twitchy" at speeds over
130MPH.
