I hope it's not old news I've been reading, but this was just on
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
My conclusion: YAAAAHHHHOOOOOOooo :-))

News for September 10, 1998

Sierra Sports announced today that they have
officially obtained the license to incorporate
Ferrari's
Grand Prix car in its upcoming racing simulation
Grand
Prix Legends. The car, a Ferrari 312, weighed in at
1,100 pounds and produced more than 400 horsepower
during the 1967 season, the year Grand Prix Legends
                    takes place. [4:20 PM ET]

Saw the same on CG Online.  Question that comes to mind is if the product
has Gone Gold, then how can they ADD a Ferrari license now.  The article
also mentioned the game was to be released NEXT month!

It's possible for that gold to be canned and the necessary mods to be
made before releasing it for mastering again.

I thought it had been signed in for a quite a while now.
Do you know if they have Honda in there, I never heard anything about that car
being in.

The only license AFAIK they didn't got was Honda, Cooper and also Jackie
Stewart

So in the full version...

Honda = Musurama
Cooper = Coventry Car Company

Pretty easy to change, I mean the fictional cars have the same look as their
non-licensed alter-ego.

It was the same in previous Papyrus titles... remember JVilleneuve IndyCar
was painted in blue/white with fictional sponsors and a fictionnal driver
(who coincidence was born on the same day in the same city ! ;-P   ).

I just hope they still have a Poultry Shack sponsor (Fictional sponsor that
is in around every Papyrus title since years) ;-)

The Honda is "disguised" as a "banzai" or some fictional name.

Honda Japan (i.e., Head Office!) is an EXTREMELY difficult company to
get permission from to do anything!! (That's from first-hand
experience).

Maybe somebody will hack a way to "undisguise" the Honda, as they did with
the infamous "Driver X" in F1RS.  If not, they can call it a "Yamura," sort
of an inside joke for fans of the movie "Grand Prix."

Actually it will be even more easy than the DriverX hack...

Papyrus, since IndyCar Racing 1, uses the same track and graphics
architecture. Their simulations are pretty open-build, and are easy editable
(well except SODA <g>).

People edit about everything in Papyrus racing titles since years, and the
only difference in GPL is that they will need to change the utilities (like
per example WinMIP, who is already updated for GPL) with some little
changing (color palettes and so).

As for the names of drivers and so, it's nothing more easy than opening a
*.ini file and making the Murusama a Honda and Coventry a Cooper.

I don't recall seeing 1 single thing in a Papyrus product that people aren't
able to edit (Well maybe only the core game engine).
