N2K2 weird AI at Bristol

N2K2 weird AI at Bristol

This is using an unpatched version of N2K2 btw.

Don't know if anyone has seen this before, but was racing at
Bristol/Night and, after about 30 or so laps of a 125 lap race, there
were yellows every couple of laps after the green.  I also noticed that
it seemed to be caused by some cars coming out of the pits shortly after
each green flag and running up into the fast moving cars at the the
first turn.  These coming togethers were mainly happening with the cars
near the front of the field and, as I was one of those, I started to
notice that the cars coming out of the pits seemed to be the same
ones...  Time to check the replay.

What was happening when I checked the replay was that there appeared to
be 5 or so cars that were continuously going in for what seemed like a
stop/go penalty and it didn't matter how many they served they were back
in again as soon as the green fell.  When they came out they would
invariably be trying to slot in amongst the front-runners, sometimes
sliding wide and running cars into the wall or, if that didn't take
someone out, would then slow down again in the same turn to come
straight back into the pits for another stop/go, causing the car behind
to slow suddenly or run into them.

Has anyone seen this kind of thing before and has it been addressed with
the patch?

I did save the race replay, but it's huge (over 90Mb) and my conn is
only a 56K so no uploading for me, if anyone wanted to look at it, I'm
afraid.  Though I could cut a smaller section if anyone was interested,
I guess.

Just a thought.  Get the patch and check it yourself?  I don't want to sound
like a smartass, but you pretty much HAVE to get the latest patch for any game
if you expect stuff to work as its meant to.

Well, I was advised against patching it if I was just racing offline
because I was told that the AI had been made a lot worse after the patch
and that it was only essential if you need to race online, which is
unlikely for me at the mo.

As for checking it, the thing is, I've raced at Bristol without problems
on other occasions and so was just wondering if this was a known issue
and whether Papy were aware of it.

The AI problem was most apparent at the hairpin at sears point.  However
the 2nd Papy patch has addressed this issue as well.   Considering the
original offline problems, especially at Martinsville, the patch shouldn't
hurt...you can always re-install if you feel the patch is too goofy.
