..in the Top 25 Buddies. <vbg>   You are only one spot behind Pope
Huttu.  This even beats your ranking in St. E's cup. You may not be the
fastest guy around, but you're up there with being one of the most
famous.

Congratulations!

Sadly, Eldred will *never* win the Eldred Cup, because his handicap
is the benchmark used. He's cursed to always hovering around 0.00 in
the cup, no matter how much he improves ;->

BTW, a GPLrank admin raised privacy concerns on Top 25 buddies and
the "whose buddy list am I on" parts of the site. What's the opinion
of the forum?

I think it is great, and I got a nice surprise when i looked at the
"whose buddy list am I on" page finding people I don't know :)

But if privacy is a issue for some people, is it possible with a
checkbox in the profile where you can check it if you don't want to
appear on those two lists ? To minimize the mess if you make such
thing, it could be defaulted to "Yeah, I'm not afraid of my name used
in public", and people who are could turn it off.

Just my thought.

Again, thanks a lot for the effort Uwe!

I think its a good thing to know who is watching you <g>.  Seriously though, the
whole idea of GPLRank is to compare yourself to others, and in turn having some of
them compare themselves to you.  I can't think there is any harm in letting
someone know that you have them as a "buddy".  And if for some reason you didn't
want someone to know you were watching their times, the search driver database
makes it easy enough to do a B2B and check laptimes without having them as a
buddy.

The only privacy concern I have with GPLRank is that anyone (including spammers)
can create an account and then search the database to get your email address
(seems to me submitting your email address wasn't optional and it was stated that
it wouldn't be used except for admin purposes).

Hi Uwe,

I didn't even notice them until you said anything (and I did stop by yesterday
:-).

I don't see any problem with the Top 25 -- I knew Alison and Randy would be up
there.  The "Whose Buddy List am I on" part is fine too.  It allows you to see who
is trying to pass you :-D

I don't see it as a problem, you and your team have done a fantastic job!

Jason.

Yep Ken,

I agree 100%. this is why I introduced a hard limit on the search
function, although I agree that adding a button like "don't show my
mail address" would be better. I thought it would be nice to be able
to communicate with other gplrank users in an easy manner, but of
course as always in life there is a downside. You can always change
your mail address to some spambox if you don't want to receive mail,
however some admin functions send mail to the users mail address
when we wipe times and such.

Cheers,

Uwe

I saw your later post regarding the search limit and spammers; good thinking. The
check box would be nice as I see the need to email for admin purposes. However its not
a big concern (or I won't be posting on usenet), just a comment.

BTW I do think GPLRank is great.  Thanks for all the work you and the others put into
the site.
