Snipped lots of good tech info on Voodoo2:
I agree. I was meaning the hit on framerate with opponents on suggesting
that the processor is so busy with AI it doesn't seem to have time for much
else, lowering the framerate as a result. I'm well aware that a 200mmx is
out of date but having searched Deja News I'm not convinced that even a 450
PII with Twin 12 Voodoo2's is capable of a constant 37 FPS with a full
field. Some seem to be ok but a lot still drop frames. I can actually run
MGPRS2 in 1024x768 smooth as anything (no frame counter so I'm not sure
exactly) and I wouldn't call the AI bad. In fact I think the AI is better
than any other race game I've played except GPL. I must say the in MGPRS2 if
you spin and sit in the middle of the track the cars will avoid you. In GPL
I have been hit a few times when they had a good view of me.
The question is I suppose is GPL's AI worth a new computer. I can get 37 FPS
with 3 other cars on the track so I know my 200mmx can at least handle the
physics on my car comfortably.
For starts only and when you spin off and need to accelerate form
standstill. Currently you just get bogged down in 1st at the start because
you can't rev the engine without a clutch. GP2 had this and it was great for
starts. Incidentally MGPRS2 doesn't either (on manual as well) and it's
quite annoying not being able to rev the engine at the start.
