GP2 - Frame Rate & Occupancy

by John & Carol Bola » Sat, 08 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I have a Pentium 100 with 16 megs of RAM.  When I run GP2 in SVGA mode
the Occupancy Rate in certain sections of the game is way over 100%.
(VGA mode it is fine.)  This obviously results in the game running
fairly slow.

Does anybody know if increasing my RAM to 32 will increase performance
and speed of the game?

Extra memory won't make any noticeable difference. Best thing is to
reduce the amount of graphics detail and/or the frame rate so that the
occupancy stays below 100%.

Sorry to say no.  The only way to improve GP2's performance is to run it
in VGA or with reduced detail in SVGA -- or --  You can upgrade your
video card or CPU/motherboard.

Just remembered another trick to improving performance.  There are a
number of "enlarged"***pits out there on the net that can used in
replacement of the default***pit.  It has been reported that these can
enhance frame rate.

GP2 - Frame Rate & Occupancy

John & Carol Boland,
I am running a Dell Pentium 100 16 meg ram and I was doing
fine with my #9 graphics card
with 2 meg of Vram. I bought a Intergraph 3d card with 4 meg dram and it
slowed the performance
of GP 2 down. The only way I could run is with about everything off. I
am now running the 3d card
and 32 meg of ram and it runs great with all graphics. Maybe I am seeing
things by reading the other letters
but it helped me. It is worth a try though 2 - 4 meg chips are down to
around $40 now.

GP2 - Frame Rate & Occupancy

I have a P120, 16MB, and Diamond Stealth 64 PCI 1MB video card .  I run in
VGA with everything on except sky and side mirror textures.  I set the
frame rate at 16fps and see occupancy of 80% with over 100% at times of
accident or smoke in fromnt of the car.  There is a lot of contriversay
over wether better video cards make the frame rate higher.  I substituted
a Diamond Stealth Speedstar Pro ISA video card and saw the occupancy go up
to only 86% an increase of only 6%.  I always thought that the video card
was the bottleneck, but I believe that there is no substitute for MHz in
processor speed.  The bottom line is that a faster processor will give you
more fps nothing else will give do more to increase the frame rate period.
 ( Just my two cents)
Jerry
