NEED NFS SE Tournament patch

by Mark Smi » Thu, 18 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Anybody write a patch for those of us that can't win those impossible
tournaments.  I really want MIRROR mode and the BONUS tracks but can't dedicate
my life to racing till I beat a PEFECT computer.

EA told me there were no passwords but I'm sure that is just the OFFICIAL
position and standard response.  Although they shortened the name box so the old
passwords don't fit anymore (or my name)

Try this out
This little hack will give you a 300mph Porsche. The modification can
be done with any of the cars, though I
don't guarantee good results. I have only tried this with the 911 and
the Ferrari (the 911 is my favorite, so
that's the one that I use).
This is the easiest way, without making too many modifications, to
upgrade the speed of any car.

Find Paths.dat in the /gamedata/config directory.
Make sure to make a back up of paths.dat before doing anything to it.
Using a hex editor, open the file and find the line that says:
"D:\simdata\carspecs" (D is the cd-rom drive, it may be a different
letter on your system).
Replace the "D" with a "C" (letter of your hard drive).
Create a directory off of the root of c: called simdata and a
subdirectory called carspecs.
Just to make sure that you are with me still, you should have created
the path
c:\simdata\carspecs.
Copy all the files in d:\simdata\carspecs to c:\simdata\carspecs.
You should now be in c:\simdata\carspecs
Change the attribute of the by_r&t file to read only (attrib +r
by_r&t.)
Copy traffc.pbs to p911.pbs
You have just created a 300 mph Porsche.

The only bug that I have noticed is that the speedometer needle seems
to grow' after you reach the peg.
