Hi,
I have a Diamond Monster -II 3DFX... when I use it with GPL, I
notice that after 15/20 minutes of use (racing mode), I get a
sudden drastic reduction in frame rate.... i.e.  from about
25/30 fps to 4/5 fps!  This of course makes the car undrivable
as it virtually turns into a slide show.  I have tried turning
the graphic accelleration down to minimum (90), but it makes
no differance!  I wonder if the 3DFX card is overheating?
I do have a small 12v axial fan, perhaps I should install this
and direct it at the Monster card?  Unless anyone has any
alternative suggestions?

Dave,

its not starting to page out at the same time is it? How much memory do you
have and how big is your swap file? what else is running etc.

test the heat thing by opening the box and puting a desktop hopusehold fan
blowing over the inards of the machine whilst you play.....

not much help I know but .. there you have it.

cheers

-Lindsay

Usual symptoms of over heating 3d card are lockups rather than slowdowns

Hi Linsay,Thanks for replying...
I have 2 gb. spare on my C: drive and 64mb. ram... (P200MMX), I let the
computer handle the vrtual memory sttings, after getting dire warnings of
'Your computer may not restart' when I tried to adjust it manually!!!

Am I man or am I mouse?  Yup, I am a coward.... my PC not restarting is the
stuff of nightmares!!

If it were heat you'll just lock up as you say - this is almost certainly a
memory thing - does your HDD rattle while the slide show is playing? I have
dual V2 and can race for hour after hour without these symptoms. Another cause
of the problem could be another program kicking in.

Paul
