GPL - Voodoo 2 advanced options

by SpeedFree » Sun, 04 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I thought I saw a post about this recently, but I can't seem to find it...

What options in Voodoo 2 advanced menu should be checked for optimum GPL
performance, i.e. speed, not eye-candy?

Does "Limit texture memory to 2Mb for glide apps" affect GPL and if so, how?

Thanks in advance,

From SpeedFreek

That all depends on your system.  By limiting the memory for Glide
applications you're telling your system to "don't draw things that would eat up
more then 2 meg".  The more memory that's taken for drawing things, the less
there is for other things associated with the Sim.

**But then again... I'm no expert** and I'm sure someone will help me
understand the true idealism behind it.

To find out if it works for your system, try this..

Go to your favorite track.  While in the pits, press "ALT-F".  Mark down the
number shown on the bottom of the screen.  Go back and select that option under
Advanced and do the same thing again.  If that number is higher, then you do
want it.  If it's lower, Then you don't.

The downfall to selecting this is that you will see a "tare" in the screen
every now and then.  It'll look just like you're at the movie theater and the
screen suddenly tares then repairs it self a second later.  Or there is a flaw
in a couple frames in the film.  It wont harm your system at all.  It will
either improve the frame rate or it wont.

I have it selected as it gave me 8fps more.

Hi there....
I can't find 'Dont sync buffer swaps' anywhere in advanced onptions in the
3dfx voodoo 2 tab in display properties.

Where is it? Do I need to update my drivers?

I'm using glide 2.54 with 2.53 in GPL dir.

Thanks, from SpeedFreek.
