Further jerking left probs at Tally - need input

by K. Flanar » Sat, 07 Feb 1998 04:00:00

First, let me apologize if this gets wordy:

Reinstalled N2 in preparation for the new NORS2 season.
Practicing Tally (Daytona) the car kept jerking to the left.
This was the first reinstall since I bought the game originally so I
didn't remember if there was a patch/fix for this.
Asked and found that the 1.03 patch supposedly fixed that particular
problem.
Also (and this may be relevant) I'm using the new TMaster Nascar Pro
from Win95.
Patched to 1.03 and still have the problem sometimes. Sooooo, I did the
right thing and called Sierra to
find out if there were any issues with the Nascar Pro Wheel. (that was
the right thing, wasn't it?)  ;)
The guy had me do all the basic stuff (is your PC on?) and verified I
had installed the correct patch. (I had).
He then had me run MSD and check the X,Y readings on the "joystick"
(read:wheel). This is where it gets
funky. The readings on my PC were way too high. He said X,Y readings
should be around 50 and mine were well above 100. Said the wheel might
have a bad diode etc.
1) Is anyone using the Tmaster Nascar Pro and have you had any probs
(Win95)
2) Would someone be so kind as to run MSD on their machine and post the
X,Y readings so I have
     something to compare it with?
If the wheel is toast, I'm finished with TMaster. I replaced springs for
2 years on the T2 and I'm not going through this again. I'll just fork
over $500.00 for a "professional" wheel and be done with it.
Again, my apologies for the length of this and thanks in advance for the
help.

First the Win95 joystick applets do not accruately read and store the
calibration readings for many game controllers.  Try using
Thrustmasters's ProPanel applet instead of the joystick or Game
Controller applets to setup and calibrate your wheel in Win95.

I haven't had any troubles running my NASCAR Pro in Win95.

Try using Thrustmaster's TMScope program to check the readings of your
wheel.  I am using Thrustmaster's ACM card and their ProPanel applet and
the wheel reading within Win95 is 17 - 311.

Now that Sierra is pointing a finger at ThrustMaster, I would suggest
you call them and see if they can help troubleshoot your problems.  It
is possible that you have a faulty pot or that it is just "dirty" and
needs a good cleaning to get rid of the twitching/pulling you are
experiencing.  All of a sudden I started experiencing similar problems
at Talladega and a good cleaning of the steering pot cleared up all of
my problems.  While using TMScope if you see the "triangle" start to
bounce around at certain spots while you slowly turn the wheel, you may
just have a dirty pot.  If cleaning doesn't fix the problem, then you
more than likely have a faulty pot.

Well, I don't want to be confused with anyone who's Kind!

I have a TM NP Wheel and use an ensoniq sound card from Siig. (real pain in
the ass so far)  in any case, TM Scope in Win95 here reports x1 from 91-1634
and y1 from 235-1218.  Thats after REALLY hitting the pedals and Cranking
the wheel.

Not to disagree with another post on here but the values read from the
gameport are more affected by the Sound/Game card than anything.  A
Thrustmaster ACM will give different values than a Soundblaster, Ensoniq,
Ess, ADI, and on and on and on.  This guy you mention from Sierra TS
obvoiusly doesn't know shit about gameports.  Hmmm, great person for tech
support.  If you get ahold of him again... ask to be transferred!

I have the Nascar Pro but I only run N2 out of Dos, it seems to run a
lot smoother for me.  I ran msd and came up with these settings:

Joystick A      X:57
                          Y:50
Button 1          On
Button 2          On
Joystick B      X:22
                          Y:35
Button 1          On
Button 2          On

Hope this is of some help to ya!
