Godallmighty! If I slide into one more goddammed AI car I'm gonna f*ckin
uninstall the goddammed thing! I was just trying some practice laps at Bristol,
I'm about to overtake #77, I acidentally tap him a little bit at the right-rear
corner, and instead of just tapping and moving on I wind up sliding *into* that
c*ck sucker's car! Of course, we were both done for and my practice session
effectively over.

I haven't been playing N3 much lately 'cause of a preoccupation with Viper and
SCGT, but I still like to practice with it on occasion. Seems just about
everytime I do, though, I wind tapping another car (not uncommon in stock car
racing) and *sliding into* it and wrecking.

I need to find out who at Papy to contact and send them some screenshots and
replays of this nonsense. I remember that being a problem in N99 as well.

Well...I hate to tell ya but thats the way it should be.  Those cars are so
close to the ragged edge that a strong gust of wind could spin you right
around.  IMO its not a bug but an improvement in the physics model.  Teaches
you to keep your bumber out of where it doesnt belong huh?  Now, granted this
is sim racing and there are instances where oddities can occour...but general
rule of thumb is...if it happens all the time; its generally not a bug.  Watch
a highlight reel of a NASCAR race and youll see how often a slight touch can
end a run for both drivers.

You wouldn't get away with crashing into other cars in GPL either. Seems
like the AI should be re-programmed to stay away from you!

Hmmm Morgan I am Lost hereif yo are racing the AI then you determine
your amount of Practice right?I am assuming that when you wreck with the
AI you cant repair that Damage is what you mean so you wont get a good
feel for the car.Well unless you have Really SHORT practices all you
have to do is go back to the setup screen and get a new car or hit
shift+r and it rests you too the pits and you are back to practicing
again.I dont see what the problem is, you hit a car, you both spin,,
hmmm sounds about right to me.

I believe he's not complaining about the spin itself, but about the
sometimes
really bad 3D collision detection, as in one car melting into another
one.
Hey, that's how they reproduce...

Do you have force feedback? If you did, you would feel the other car before
you
bashed into it (your term was tapping). I tap the other cars all the time
without
wrecking, so either I have yellows and damage off (which I do) or you suck
:-)

He's saying his car went *into* the other car (merged).
When this happens, you can't get separated again, and the race is over.

Instead of sending the replays or screenshots to Papy, why don't you
find one of the alt.binaries newsgroups and post them there? Then you
could post a message in this group letting us know where they are. I
would be very interested in looking these. Note: I suspect your
driving incompetence. Not trying to be rude, but I love the new AI. I
am not perfect, but careful and I find that I have no trouble until I
get way too impatient and try to win a race in the first 5 laps.

Morgan,

     Calm down !!

1st it's only a practice session in a sim. Try doing that in a league
race, unfortunately,I do it all the time.

And by all means if it's driving you nuts, then uninstall it. You can
always reinstall it when you change your mind, and sooner or later you will.

Doesn't Shift-R return you to the pits no matter what (in practice)?

I admit I'm only mediocre at this stuff. I don't practice all the time nor do I
care all that much about my lap times or running perfectly consistent on every
lap. I just like to run laps here and there and occasionally run a 50% or 100%
race every now and then. But I think most of you here are misunderstanding what
I'm saying. That's not a surprise either. Most of the people who complain about
the AI get replies usually suggesting raising or lowering the opponent
strength or RELS. What I'm saying is my car *slides into* the other car. I
don't mean tapping, bumping, crashing, sliding toward the other car, or
anything of that nature. I'm saying our two cars are *merging* into one. I
actually wind up
driving *into* the opponent's***pit. What then happens is both of our cars
are locked together and neither of us get away. Eventually after enough revving
and sawing at the steering wheel the two cars will unlock.

This happens very frequently and is obviously a bug. I'll post some screenshots
on my website when I get around to it. Today or tommorow. I might post some
replays as well. I have a screenshot of something similar in Sports Car GT. Two
cars clipping (in graphics sense, not the racing sense) each other. This don't
never happen in Viper Racing though. When to cars hit they HIT, baby! HEHE :)

Alright, I got some stuff posted at http://members.tripod.com/~morganv/. I
couldn't get a decent connection to my xoom site, as usual, so I went with my
stupid tripod site instead. You'll just have to put up with the consoles.

Rick he said in Practice, so why would the race be over?

races.

*into* the opponent's***pit. What then happens is both of our cars are locked
together and neither of us get away. Eventually after enough revving and sawing
at the steering wheel the two cars will unlock.

I have had this happen, but only occasionally.  It seems to take a special
angle to happen, and is certainly not something I could duplicate on purpose.

I have never had the two cars become so entangled that the race needed to be
stopped, however.  I can get untangled within a couple seconds.  Sometimes I am
able to actually drive right through the other car and continue on with no
damage.

I don't think it's that big a deal.  I would like to see other things fixed
instead.  AI pitting when the pits are closed, the bunchup on restarts, the
stop on the backstretch during cautions, AI slowing to pit speed while still in
the racing groove just before pitting with no warning (they do a good job
staying on the apron exiting the pits until getting up to speed-- why not on
entering..)...
