RASCAR: Rules

Despite the fact that we're just racing for fun, I feel like we need a
few rules to keep things to a managable level of insanity.

1) Once the green flag drops to start the race, no unneccesary chatting
should be performed.  If you're chatting, you're not driving.  I don't
give a damn how good you are at it, it just should not be happening.

2) Know the caution pace speed.  Everyone should be doing that speed
from the point at which they catch up to the end of the pace line until
the green flag drops again.

3) DO NOT JUMP A RESTART.

4) Obey your spotter without question.  He has the last word on your
track poistion.

Don't forget the single file restart for the last ten laps John ;-)

Could you define jumping a restart, because I've been accused of this by
several people and I don't really agree with them.

And no more chitchat from my side.

I'll have to check the replay, but I could swear I saw a driver up ahead
leave a gap and then try to get a run before the green flag was dropped.
That's why at the next yellow as we were approaching T3 before the green
flag I kept typing "tighten up". It looked like some were still reluctant to
do so.

I was pretty far gone by the lap we got 8 laps to go. I was mad,
frustrated, angry, upset, and annoyed, and I just plain forgot we only
had 8 to go. :)

Jumping the restart is when you'reacellerating beyond the pace speed
before the green drops.

If you're catching up to the line as the race goes green, it's just
plain good sportsmanship to NOT squirt past everyone simply because you
already have a head of steam up.

as I said in the race Dave..I wont tighten up at Dega because of all the
late brake checking that was going on, it wasnt to get a run...I KNOW how to
get in the gas when the car in front of me goes....but several times there
were cars stopping/slowing dramatically on the track bunching things up too
tight for my interest in the trioval before restarts....just my .02

My message during the race certainly wans't directed at anyone in
particular, I was just hoping to press the point to those who were doing
what you describe below to tighten up and maintain a steady speed before the
green flag (and if somebody was thinking they'd get a run, to try to
discourage them). "Tighten up" was all I could type while driving. :-)

Also, I looked at the replay and the driver I complained about wasn't trying
to get a run at all. The driver in front of him suddenly swerved off the
track and down into the inside wall for some strange reason and I think he
was waiting to see if he'd get back into his place in line before the s/f
line. It ended up enabling the lead pack of 10 cars to break off on their
own until the next yellow.

Why not just say no passing at all until after the S/F line.

Ok then the only time I jumped the start was when I delayed the start when
heading the field, liked I mentioned earlier I was under the assumption that
I could set the pace once the pace car left just like in F1.

The problem with holding back when you have a faster start is that usually
it only means that the guys in front of you wasn't quick enough. So as soon
as you lift off you get passed from every side.

Personally I feel you shouldn't add any rules to the sim, that often leads
to heated discussions. That's why I think you should race back to the flag
and be allowed to pass on the right on the restart.

John, wouldn't it be a good idea to create a league out of this? When points
instead of event success are on the line, people tend to use their heads
just a bit more. With not too many 'outside' sim rules, it woudn't be too
time consuming to run either. So nothing fance just keeping track of the
standings.

Nooo, please. The strength of RASCAR is that it is a place to race
familiar people if one would like to that day. A league means
commitment to do most races which would ruin the fun, and restrict a
lot of people from taking part.

I'm in support for John's "Gentlemens agreements". Apart from the rule
against throwing a few wisecracks after the 10th yellow :)

Maybe you're right, I'm probably not in the situation to make this assesment
any way. Tally was my first RASCAR race and so I'll probably have to stick
around for a while before I can make such judgements. BTW what tracks will
the next race be on?

That won't happen the majority of the time(you getting passed), and even
if it does, if you're faster, you'll get them back.  Better than wrecking on
a restart :)

says...

There is nothing about Nascar that is "like F1".

If everyone is doing pace speed when the green flag drops, nobody should
be able to pass you before the first turn unless you a) let them pass
you, or b) are damaged to the point that you simply can't accelerate
with the rest of the folks.

I can't add rules to the sim, but I can suggest stuff that we should all
agree to adhere to.

I don't want it to be a league.
