The force of the LWFF

The force of the LWFF

A couple of days ago Alison or Eric Cote, can't remember exactly,
wrote that the force of the LWFF is depending on the id number in
joystick properties.
Yesterday I tried this out, and what a H-U-G-E difference it makes!
First I had my ch pedals on id #1 and the LWFF on #2, I tried Alison's
ff settings and found them way to weak, I could barely feel the
forces. On the other hand, Alison couldn't understand how people could
drive with Eric Cote's settings, she found them way to strong.

Yesterday i put my CH pedals on #2 and the LWFF on #1. I drove 5 laps
on Spa in a Lotus, and the forces were way stronger than before,
really much, much stronger! If I have to guess, I think an increase of
about 30-40%. The forces were so strong that it was very heavy to
drive the car, after 5 laps I really got tired.

I then changed the id numbers again, and as expected the ff was much
softer again, like I prefer. FF is to be used to feel the movement of
the car, not as a workout.

There were some thoughts that there are different versions of the
LWFF, with different ff forces. Maybe this still is true, I'm curious
to know of other LWFF experience the same big ff differences when they
change their ID number.

Odd.  I'll have to try it and let you know as I've only basically ever run
my LWFF on id #1.

I cannot confirm this. I've always used the LWFF on #2 and my TMF1 pedals on
#1. Force in core.ini at 200, in LWFF properties at 150. I tried using the
LWFF on #1 after reading your post, but the only effect was, that I couldn't
use my pedals on #2. The force of the wheel seemed to be exactly the same.
With Alison's idea to set the damping to zero in the LWFF properties, a
core.ini force of 200 just feels right for me, certainly not too weak.
Seems there *are* different LWFF's around...
BTW, just out of couriosity, how did you get your CH pedals to work on ID#2
?

Actually that was no problem at all for me... I first add my lwff in
joystick properties, and then I add the ch pedals. Lwff gets #1, CH
gets #2 automatically.

LOL, not a workout??? Do you think that stockcar drivers don't get a workout
with their wheels?  If you dont then your wrong!

Yes, I did it the same way. What I meant was, did your CH pedals work on #2
with the LWFF on #1? Because my TM pedals are dead when I try to calibrate
them in GPL and they are on #2 and the LWFF on #1. Even when they are listed
OK in the Game Controller properties. Not that it matters, the other way
round everything is OK, I just wondered...

If I remember well Alison wrote on her FF pages that the steering in a
F1 car is quite light and very sensitive... allthough I'm beaten in
real life after ten minutes of cart racing :)

The ForceFX is the same way.

Yes Peter, it works both ways in GPL. Don't know why it doesn't work
with your TM pedals, but as you said, why fix it if it ain't broken :)
By the way, I don't know these TM pedals. Can you compare them with
the CH pedals?

The pedals of my old Trustmaster Formula One (think it's called Nascar Pro
or something in the US). They are quite good as long as no spring breaks or
a pot goes mad. Can't compare them to the CH though, since I've not even
seen them in Austria. But regarding the posts on RAS, I'd assume that the CH
are better.

He has never raced an old front wheel drive Golf (Rabbit) with an almost
completely locked LS differential and without power steering. Then you can
talk about workout...

After 10 km are your arms like spaghetti. :)
