Colin McRae problems - please help

by B » Wed, 09 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I have a P200MMX 48mb EDO CL Banshee (voodoo2)
Win98,  106 drivers,  upgraded bios and DX 6.1.
Colin McRae release version plus patch from Codemasters.

I have 2 problems:

1.
When playing Colin McRae Rally (full version) I get constant choppy
sound in the menus. I also get some hesitation in gameplay vision but
especially sound. The funny part is it runs better at 800x600.
If I drop to 640x480 or 512x384 it gets progressively worse the lower
the res.

2.
The menu options rotate by themselves (like when you have a badly
calibrated joystick) I have recalibrated etc but no luck. (I've lost
good games without saving when the end of game menu switches just
as I hit Enter) I had installed the game and (stupidly) installed the
2nd demo (to check for a friend) and when finished checking I
uninstalled the demo. This stuffed up my real game install so I
uninstalled then reinstalled (including the CMR patch) and that's when
the menu problem started.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I have the same problem. I can't help, but it's good to know you're not
alone.

FWIW I haven't installed the patch, I'm running the vanilla installation
from the disc.

it looks at the frame rate.)

Colin McRae problems - please help

I have fixed the rotating menus:

Turn off the option to pole the com ports in the game controller /
joystick panel in Windows Control Panel. This did the trick.

Codemasters gave me the info but refused to even acknowledge the other
queries. I will NEVER buy another Codemasters product due to the
absolutely poor support. If they do answer emails your only told the
answers to easy questions. Even after numerous complaints they will
not answer my queries. They don't deserve any more of my business !
(I even bought TOCA and had poor support. I should have learnt)

PS: I have an AWE64 value ISA.

I am still getting choppy menu sound and movement plus now a new
problem of jittery menus. It appears the menu forground flashes while
the background remains still.

Any ideas?
