GP3 Complaints

I ussually don't post anything, just read other people opinions and keep mine
to myself. But with GP3 I have to post.  It seems that the most complaints are
about stupid things, like cars floating in the pits, SO WHAT!!, the racing
happens on the race track not the pitlane, bad graphic performancve, I have
PII-450, 96 MB ram, and a 12mb Riva TNT, and with some adjustments it looks and
runs well.  I loved GP2 my first sim, NBext came GPL, loved it too, but I
wanted a modern F1 sim and GP3 is the best.

Thanks

It's funny. All the ppl who love the graphics have second or third
generation PC's.

I didn't realise there were "generations" ?

Where did you dream that up from?

Oh, I'm sorry - you use acronyms instead of words; explains a lot.

I would have thought a third generation PC was a 386..

Does that make Second generation 286? Which way up or down the scale are we
going? :o) if I'm right isn't the original posters machine a Sixth
Generation?

I have to agree.  When I first played I was no initally impressed.  I
thought it was too much like GP2.  However I have rapidly changed my
mind.  I'm using it on a p2-450, with a voodoo 5 (use one chip setting,
gp3 cannot handle 2), and it runs fantastically.

The weather is 2nd to none, looks great and the way it changes is
great.  The physics feel great to, they have addressed my biggest
complaint about gp2, which was how nervous the cars were over the
kerbs, now you can really attack them.  What really e***d me was the
way the cars defend the corners, and also will attack you given a
chance.  They have got it just about right.  We cannot expect
perfection on this, but this is pretty good.  I remember being
dissapointed at F1-2000, which could have been great if not for the
over aggressive ai, which always resulted in accidents.

However, yep there are bugs, and I suffer from the biggest which is
force feedback on msff, which just pulls the wheel to the left whenever
making a slight deviation to the left.  To be honest, to leave that
problem in, is inexcusable.  Anyway I imagine this will be patched, by
either microprose, or a third party.

Its a great game!

You always stick your foot in it when you put the word all in a sentence.

I have a P3-866 with a GeForce 2, and *my* opinion is that it's the best
graphical F1 sim available.

Cheers,
Rod.

Well Rod, from your comments i'm assuming you just haven't played many
F1 sims then, probably not many pc games period. I have three systems
networked at home (including at least one that's superior in all ways
to the system you played it on) with a varitey of 3d cards and have a
TON of experience playing just about every automotive sim that's been
released in the last 10 years and i think GP3's graphics suck compared
to just about any racing sim released in the past few years, GP3's
graphics are good for 1996, not for the year 2000. Here are the specs
of my three pc's, i've installed GP3 on all three and it looks the
same (shit) on them all:

PIII 450 with an ATI All in Wonder Pro 128 AGP w/32 megs video ram and
a Voodoo3 3000 pci with 16 megs ram and 128 meg system ram.

PIII 667eb 133mhz with a Matrox G400 Dual Head w/32 megs video ram and
128 megs system ram.

PIII 933eb 133mhz with a GeoForce 2 7700 Deluxe w/32 megs video ram
and 256 megs system ram.

As you can see all three of my systems are graphics powerhouses and  i
buy and download tons of games, so i have seen alot of stuff in order
to make my judgement that GP3's graphics suck. Also, i have the latest
drivers for all cards and run the game on max details at 1280x1024 on
all 3 machines. If you think GP3's graphics come even close to games
like GPL, SCGT, MGPR, hell even F1RS etc.. you are just plain blind!.

Cor!! You've got some great PCs there. And they're all networked
together; how sweet. You sound like a really interesting person.

Tell me, the connection between that guy liking GP3's graphics
and you having some ***-off PCs newtorked together is?

I've played nearly every one that's been released in either full game or
demo. I'm also looking at over 500 original games as recent as Quake3,
Shogun, SBK2000 (which is the supreme graphical racing masterpiece)
closely followed by RC-2000, F1-2000, Unreal Tournament, yada yada... or
would you like to talk flight sims? Falcon 4, Flanker 2, EECH, Mig Alley,
F/A-18, USAF?

Only 10 years? Junior ;P

Hence the asterisks around the word MY. As in *MY OPINION*. Just because
you think they're ***doesn't mean that a) I haven't played many sims,
or b) I don't have the right to feel that they look good to *me*. I'm not
condeming you for you saying they 'suck'. I have no doubt you feel that
they 'suck'.

Who said that? <gropes for keyboard>.

The beauty of the human race is that we all have differing tastes. After
playing F1-2000 for a few months, I went back to GPL, to *me* it looked
very average in comparison. SCGT never really got me that e***d
graphically, MGPR2 and F1RS were ok but sound problems, locking up and
touchy throttle stopped me from playing those rather quickly, but their
graphics never really grabbed me.

I was merely making a comment about an owner of a high spec machine
enjoying GP3's graphics, in which you said that only owners of 2nd or 3rd
generation (I think you're confused about the meaning of 2nd and 3rd
generation machines, personally...) would enjoy the graphics.

Cheers,
Rod.

Maybe you just dunno how to setup all those systems then....
Gotta PIII-500 with a Voodoo3 card myself and the graphics look gorgeous and
silky smooth....
and don't come over here with you're tons of experience, I got GP2,
IndyCar/II, Nascar Racing /II/III, GPL, F1RS, MGPR, F1-2000, and GP3 beats all
of those in detail, use of color and most of all in FPS!!!

Look at my compairance of F1-2000 and GP3 graphics on
alt.binaries.simulators.autos.
That's the way GP3 looks, and if you think that's crap, maybe you should get a
new pair of glasses!!

Roger
