GP3 - Complaints about sudden loss of grip

by Dan Belch » Sat, 29 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hello everyone,
I've heard people complaining about how you can't drive on the limit in GP3
because you can't tell where the limit is even.  The breakaway between having
grip and being over the edge and in a spin is too sudden.  Haven't Formula One
drivers been complaining the past few years that the grooved tires suddenly
lose all grip when they get the least bit past the limit of adhesion?  Seems to
me like GP3 should be hard to drive on the limit therefore, considering it
models grooved tires.  Of course, I haven't gotten a chance to play GP3 yet
(still waiting for it to arrive at my front door) so I could be totally wrong
about how the car reacts, but this sounds like it's an attempt to model real
life IMHO.

Haven't F1 drivers also been complaining about the fact that
locking up constantly under braking doesnt create flat spots on
these tyres any more (indeed this is the reason why you see all
this blue smoke coming off JV's tyres these days, as you all
know he uses racing sims extensively to prepare for race day
and obviously he must have obtained an early preview copy), and
all the fun of using tyres to your own advantage has been lost
by putting some grooves into them?

I think I heard something like that, and GP3 models that very
well, too 8-(
