I've just got a Geforce 256 DDR 32 MEG Card and want to get back into GPL.
When I last played it I thought there was a one off executable that upgraded
the original game to all the correct cars, drivers, programs etc. Can't seem
to find it. Also if I only race against the AIs not on multiplayer do I need
the patches? 1.1 or 1.2?

You should certainly patch yourself up to 1.2, install the D3D patch and
make sure you are running Nvidia drivers v5.22 or better.
