is where some of the purpose-built fast video machines are, in
getting information relating to video performance on different PC systems.
I am compiling data on performance differences between various
systems running graphic-intensive applications like the racing simulators.
These simulators put heavy demands on many different components of the PC,
and I am looking for the performance differences between the components.
I would like to get a big enough sampling to get an idea of what components
have a sizable impact on video performance.
The data will be of use for those planning the purchase of a new system,
or those looking to upgrade present systems.
I am using the 3DBENCH program, available from many FTP sites. I downloaded
3DBENCH.ZIP from WEBCOM.COM in /PUB/ZYLLYZ/IWCC/UPDATES. The download is
short, and the program itself takes only a minute or so to complete. I will
post any results, and conclusions from those results, for the information
of all.
If you would like to participate in this project, just run the 3DBENCH
program, mentioned above, and mail the resulting frame-rate with the
CPU CACHE VIDEO RAM FRAME-RATE
cpu/mhz 128/256/? manf/ram/bus system MB #
Some info gathered up to this point
CPU CACHE VIDEO RAM FRAME-RATE
286 ?/512 1 3.5
386SX/25 ?/512/IDE 1 7.5
486DX/33 128 ?/512/IDE 20 16.3
I have more, and will post more if I get a decent response.
TIA, jAY
