the post so here it is again).
I'm curious how everyone elses GPL is running on their system/s. I'd like to
know if what I'm getting is good for my PC and what configurations other
people are running. If you can post here what config/s you're running and what
results you're getting then I (and everyone else... I'm sure) will appreciate
it.
Let me be the 1st. This is my system:
-PII 300
-512 Kb cache
-64 Mb RAM
-Hercules Thiller 3D 8Mb (and voodoo1, but I am running GPL thopugh the
Thriller)
-SB16
-T2 wheel
Game environment:
-19 opponents,
- race at Kilamaly track (probably misspeled), Sth. Africa
-I drive a Ferrari,
-Number of opponents heard is on default (I think it's 4)
-modified core.ini to have a 20Mb replay file
Graphic options:
Normally, I have all the graphics switched on (and the detail bias in the
middle) and the game is playabe, but the framerate is at about 20/21 at the
start of the race (back of the grid). Then it jums to about 25/28 as soon as
you start moving but drops to about 20/22 at the 1st corner. Then it clims to
36fps but drops frequently below 30fps for the 1st lap. Then, depending on the
traffic around me, it stays at 33+ fps but may drop to about 26/28 if there is
too much happening.
Anyway, now I'm trying to keep the framerate at 30+ as much as possible
without dropping too many visuals. This is what I found optimal on my system
by having everything on and then switching these things off:
-detail slider on about 35/40%
-antialising off
-specular lighting off
-dynamic lighting off
-driver textures off
-arms off
-beveled tyres off
-skid marks off
-mirrors on cars and tracvk only
Resuts with this configuration:
-at the end of the grid at the start of a race= 26/27fps
-once the cars start moving = 32-36fps
-1st corner (in traffic) = 26/27 fps
-2nd corner (in traffic) = 28/30 fps
-rest of the race =36fps (sometimes the framerate might drop a little bit but
always stays above 30fps)
I'm resonably happy with this (I'd love to have 30fps at ALL times :-) and the
quality of my visuals but again, I'd love to see what the rest of you're
getting.
ps. on a slightly different note, it's a shame that Papy didn't "copy" their
graphic options/config from ICR2 and N2 where you could specify a "minimum
framerate" and what "textures" (graphic options) will drop out when the
framerate gets that low ("auto" option). ie (using GPL as example) you'd set
the min.frames on 30 and set things like skids, all the lighting options,
beveled tyres and maybe some textures on "auto" and it would switch all these
things off before your fps would drop below 30. As soon as the fps goes above
30, all the "auto" options would come back on. That was ingenious :-)
