Hi Eric, I know this post will likely go unaswered from you but I am just
curious if it is possible that we will see some updated Track.ini files
included with the release of the NR2002 patch? It seems the qualifying and
race speeds the Cup guys are turning at alot of tracks so far this season
are alot faster than we are capable of turning in NR2002. For example the
fastest speed in qualifying trim that I have seen turned at Atlanta is about
187.6xx but the Cup guys were turning qual laps well over 192 when they
visited Atlanta earlier this year. Also from the rumors at NOL they expect
the pole speed at Texas this week to be well over 195mph but the fastest I
have seen so far in NR2002 is only 186.851, the Cup guys could likely be
truning laps 10mph faster than we are capable of. Other than that I am
looking forward to the improved Open GL support in the patch, I love the
game and can't wait to get ahold of the patch. Great job Papy! Keep these
killer games rolling!

I can go 190+ at Atlanta in Q trim no problem. The speed increase from Texas
is due to a new paving job that has smoothed the surface even more than
before.

You have to remember we all have the same car and same engine in the sim,
real teams can find a few extra ponies in the engine room and can massage
their sheet metal at each and every event. We'll never have that kind of
latittude and therefore will likely never be able to match times with the
real Cup guys at every venue. I distinctly remember beating Dale Jr's time
at the fall Atlanta race the very night he won the pole, I beat him by
nearly a tenth second. This year, the cup guys are just faster. You'll also
never see a 15.0 at Bristol in Nr2002 like Gordon put down week before last
either IMO. 15.2-15.3 is as fast as I have seen there, 15.3 is the fastest I
can muster myself. Until we can swap cams, tweak the carb jets for the non
existent humidity in the game, we will lag behind most places...

You know you can adjust the .ini files yourself.

Lars, there are quite a few guys that get close to WC speeds, but without the Q/Race engines we had
in N4, IMO its much harder for Papy to be able to simulate what those guys can do with their
engines.  Considering how close the speed/times really are, I think they have done an excellent job.
Here's a question for you:  If they were to adjust the ini files, how should they adjust it?  Should
they adjust it so a driver of your caliber(whatever that may be), can hit the same speeds?  If they
did that, the alien guys would be much faster than the real WC drivers.  No offence if you consider
yourself an alien.

190 in qual trim at Atlanta with NR2002? WOW! How much would one have to pay
to get a look at that setup?

To be honest with ya Lars, it would not do you much good to get the setup. I
shared it with a couple of my team mates and they could not finish a second
Q lap with it they found it so loose (they kept spinning). It is really a
combination of driving style and a good setup. The base for that setup was
Bob Stanley's at Team Lightspeed website if you want to get it and tweak on
it yourself. Also, the temp was 63o and there was very little wind, all
factors in the time (speed).

Good luck,

It was a league practice race, I will see if I can get the server's replay
file. I didn't save one, couldn't, my ISP hiccuped 2/3 into the race and I
got the boot. I came back, finished 3 laps down, and the replay I could save
was obviously where I came back in to the end. My time was a Q lap, second
of two. The server replay may still be on the server box, I'll check and see
for ya.

It might not even MATTER.  Just because a setup is rated as a certain
speed/time doesn't mean the average driver can GET it there...  Trust me - I
have several setups in other games where I can't get within 5-6 seconds of the
same time.

Texas?  You said Atlanta before...<g>
I haven't run EITHER track yet, so I can't tell you my speeds...

I believe I also used Atlanta as an example where speeds are off in 2K2 but
Texas was the main topic. lol   But now that you mention it the best I have
seen at Atlanta in qual trim is a mid 188, and Cup qualified at what 192's?
Not saying getting close to that mark isn't possible but i'd sure like to
see the replay if you can do it at 70 degrees. <G>   I'm not saying that the
track.ini's are way off and need a major overhaul but I do think they do
think they need maybe a little tweaking. lol

I think its the bubble shape of the car model. Thats got to have more drag
than a real Cup car. :)

Now after having run a few laps, I realize that you should be asking someone
else.  I think I ran about 177 at Texas, and slower at Atlanta(WTF?!)
