GTR was a game in its own right released by Simbin , GTR2 is the follow up
and second in the series.

My PC for now is a P4 2.6 GHz - 512MB ram and some sort of Nvidia AGP
gfx-card (FX5600?) with XP Home installed...

Is that enough for GTR2?

It is ok, but you will have to turn down some of the graphics eye-candy.

Buy yourself a good christmay present (or better find someone to) and get a
Nvidia 7950 GT Graphic Card for AGP (I think, it is released for AGP also)
and you will see the events in graphical options.

Another option - apparently ATI will be releasing an XT1950 for AGP as
well.
On the same gen of video card, I think the ATI has been shown to have
better IQ (with AA/AF, of course).  This is coming from an nVidia
8800GTS owner, so no fanboyism ;).

Thore, double the PC's main memory then save up for the next upgrade (the
whole shebang), maybe find a better vid card.  BUT!!
We really would need more info specifically on the nvidia, because there
were hundreds of possiblities on model (and or options by mfg) in AGP.  if
you had a 7800gs, or I hear someone saying 7600 out there in AGP form.  the
6600gt AGP with plenty of ram {like 256 or more} isnt to shabby, (I had the
128 meg version and cant say I would go back to it).

I have yet to move to PCIe, that will be my next upgrade, probably...

As far AGP goes here's what I do know I had a ti4600 128 meg card, in my
2.4ghz 400mhz machine, 1gb ram....  replaced that card, with the 6600 gt
128, no gain.  replaced that card with the 512 meg 7800gsoc, no gain {well,
other than both grew up in DX level support}  when I moved from the p4 to
the Core2 e6400 with my agp cards, I had HUGE gains.  GTL barely would run
30fps, dropping dreadfully donw around 12 at start of 20 car field
(offline), now I get over 90's all the time.

I'm not ready for a PCI-e upgrade of my pc yet, but I have just
upgraded my gfx card from a 128MB Radeon 9600pro card to a 256MB
(DDR2) nVidia GeForce 9600GS card and I can now run GTR2 with most
graphics on at very good frame rates.

With the old Radeon 9600 I had to turn off most gfx options.

Im not really arguing FOR PCIe, I did the same as you, but found the
motherboard was just too old, so "ti4600" performance was all, heck I was
not even getting all from it I should have, from my sytem.  I bought the
asrock Dual VSTA (agp & PCIe) slots on this thing, and got the new intel
dual core e6400, and to me all else being re used, this was a huge mega
upgrade for just around 300.  again, that is if you have decent VID card
already, since I dont know jack about ATI, I assume you do.  If I hadnt
spent money to upgrade the AGP cards I had, I would have bought a different
motherboard for sure, with PCIe only...

That should say an nVidia GeForce 7600gs not a 9600gs...!
